slicks, line-lock?

Hey guys, I get my slicks on friday, 26x10.5 MT street, on 15x8 inch aluminum rims, this will be my first time ever using slicks at the track. Was wondering if i really need a line lock to get a significant burnout?

You can do it without a linelock. Line locks just make it better for your rear brakes.

This is a fellow members burnout. Watch it all the way till the end and watch his rear brakes. Line locks avoid that

i think it will really help get your 2nd gear burnout going. I would say yes. F8L can hook you up on this and the info. Im sure he will be in here. I am having him put me a line lock kit put together before too long. Just havent had time to fool with the car lately! YARDWORK!!

Should be fine without a line lock, but they aren't too expensive or difficult to install. They are nice if you take frequent trips to the track.

The other way to avoid destroying your rear brakes is to not powerbrake your car for two continuous minutes LOL.

if you know how to do it, you can get by without one. JayC doesnt run a line loc and hes been racing his car every weekend for a few years now. Around 300 passes and 100k miles without a line lock

The guy doing the burnout for everyones amusement in the video is a freaking idiot!

He just destroyed a set of pads and rotors, not to mention burned off many miles of rubber of his tires. I would say that little bit of smokey show cost himself about $500.

Welcome to Facebook
Every tire is a little different. I'm running the MT ET Street Radials that don't require much to heat up. Everyone that runs ET Streets that I've talked to says about the same thing. The first run, do a pretty decent burnout in 2nd and holding it for a few seconds once they really start smoking. After that they really don't need much of a burnout (basically as much as JayC did in that vid) for the rest of the runs. Any more than that is just a waste of tire.

Accualy hes a senior member here who knows alot more then you.

I think that was the last time it was out before he droped a 5.4 into it. BTW he got the tires for $20 for both. Im guessing youve never been to a burnout contest. Because you dont just do a pussy burnout at those things and scoot away. You go balls out.

F8L can you (or JayC if he's around) give kind of a how-to for doing a good burnout without a line lock?

I'd have to say the guy that wrote this post is a freaking idiot. 330cube has helped more people on 5.4 swaps than anyone else I've heard of. There's a thread with a title of "330cubegt" just to call him out and get help from him. So I'm thinking he's not quite a freaking idiot

If you're going to do brakes and tires anyway, why the hell not burn everything off. The last time I got tires on my stang, the guy at the tire shop told me that the old tires had way too much tread on them and I needed to drive out into the parking lot and burn a little more rubber off... so I obliged
