SCT Tuner options?

So I went to reload my car today with my SCT, used the custom tune I got, and when I went to configure some options I noticed that 'stock' was set as my gear ratio? (I have 4.10s) I'm guessing dealers have the option of making any of the options stock? becuase I used 4.10, drove it around and it's all the same as when I used the tune before set to 'stock'

So what does one have to do to make their own custom tune? Is there some app from SCT that cost's 1 million dollars that allows you to change more than than 5 or 10 things?

And what exactly can a dealer tune? just curious as to how this stuff works

Changing small details you can do yourself, but the tunes from companys are done using dynos and they have a whole inventorys of information from past dynoruns. T can tweak things such Wot fuel / air , spark, axle ratio , cooling temps and other things to place them at a more effective level then the tunes options already in the tuner. I saw somewhere that Strategy tunes are like having your car run 90% , custom are 95% and Dynotunes are almost 100%. And stock being like 80%. ( Dont know if thats true but hope that helps.)

If i set the gears in the tune, then that will be "stock". There are tons of things that can be adjusted. So many, that it can be daunting. The old fox mustangs have over 900 adjustable parameters. The new ones are WAY more complicated with 1000s or maybe 10,000+ parameters in the code. Of course you only need to adjust a small portion of the code for most tunes. You can get the SCT pro racer package and have most of the stuff the dealers have (but not all).

Ive got a question about adjusting a parameter like spark. If you punch in -3* and then load the tune on the car it will pull timing, but say i want to go back to how it was. If i reload the tune again, do i have to put in +3* or just load the tune as it is on the tuner and will it go back to having that 3* of spark again?

Id go buy the pro racer package which is like 400 or so. It lets you do ANYTHING you want. I mean you no longer need to go to a dyno tuner.

Doing ANYTHING you want for most people means messing up things they shouldn't have been dicking around with. Unless you know all the ins and outs of tuning I'd leave it to pros

Theres books you can read (such as i am reading now) on tuning theory and application. If you take your time to accualy learn about how tuning works, you can do it yourself just fine.

If you say let me adjust this, i wonder what it does. Then your most likely gonna blow something. If you do it right and do your reading and learning before hand, tuning isnt so hard. The pro's started somewere. Most of them learned like i am now.

I talked to my local shop, they said out of everything they can do with the custom tunes, the 'owner' can configure about 2% of it.. Gonna bring it by so they can disable the trac-control, which is kool, I just wanted to make sure there was more to the 'tune' than those few things.!
