SCT Tuner What Octane For Tune
Hey everyone-
Just ordered a sct tuner from AM, got there email and need to select a octane for the tune I want to run. The local gas station carry 87, 89, 92 octane. The choices that AM give me to set the tune at is 87<91<93<100+. Would it be safe to say I'm going to run a 93 tune on 92 octane. They give the less than symbols so technically I would be running less than 93. I want to run the highest possible.

I suppose you could have them do both and if you see pinging with 93 then run the 91 tune. I'd just go with 91 though. Seems kinda common sense doesn't it?

yeah shoot for 91. It will save your the trial-and-error process. You wont see any real performance decrease anyways, and its better safe then sorry.

I ran into that same problem with the 87 / 91 / 92 avail.
I looked around and found that BP stations carry 93 as their premium if you have one around, check out the BP station

Get the 91, because what if the gas station has less than 92 grade gas in their 92 pump? Then you'd be SOL if you had the 93 tune.

The tune on mine is for 91 or better, not just 91. I run 93 in it with no problems, runs awsome.

I heard that you can run higher octane in a lower octane tune but not the other way around. EG: 92 octane on a 91 tune. Therefore I run a 91 tune because I know that 91 or better will always be available. I also heard that running say... 87 in a 91 tune can really hurt your motor. Not sure if this is true or not but I won't do it anyways.

I have an 87 Tune on mine JIC and a 93, but I"m lucky enough that Rutters and Sunoco are in abundance here and both carry 93.. so that's what I run..

call in ask. i'm sure it's a question they get a lot. if you run into a speed way some pumps have 93 and the rest are 92. atleast the ones here in indiana anywas i've noticed do. btw i was very pleased with my tune as well. just got it last week.

God. You guys have some weird octane rated stations. In FLA every station has 93, unless its a station in the middle of no where.

There's only a few places around me that carry 93. The guy said not to run a 91 tune with 93 octane. I would just do the 91

Thats a bunch of crap, if you can get the 93 then run it. On my tuner is says before you load the tune that you must use a minimum of 91 for that tune.

You can find 87,89,91,92,93 around here.. really odd.. but most stations only have 1 9X.. a few will have 91 & 93 (I think Sunoco)

Our local EPC (small local oil co.) station carries 110....So you could just drive down to Lancaster, SC everytime you need a fill up...
