Car shut off and locked up while driving+rep

this mourning my car's fuel light was on .I went to the gas station and got 8 bucks worth off gas,I got back in my car my gas light was still on .I drove up the block and my car shut off while drivng ,I was going about 50mph,I had to use alot of arm power to turn the wheel and pull over, then I waited a sec,Turned the car back on,The gas light went off And I had a quarter of a tank ,The car drove great all the way to work

Any one no what could have caused this thanks

how old's your fuel filter? may have just got plugged up, when you run real low on fuel it'll suck up any crap from the bottom of the tank and that may have restricted flow enough to stall the engine.

Fuel pressure sensor or I'm sure there's a sensor or two in the tank for the level. Maybe one of them is acting up.

^Or filter. Just weird that it ran fine after all this, clogged filter normally won't unclog on its own if its bad enough to stall the car.

normally no, but its entirely possible it picked up something big enough to block the flow and as soon as he turned it off it stopped pumping and whatever could have fallen free.

did you leave the car running when you got gas. I know if i fill mine up with the car running the guage will stay on E but SLOWLY rise. So i just turn it off and back on and it resets the sending unit. That may be your "still showed E with gas light" ordeal.

As far as the car dieing.... 8 bucks is not much. did you possibly turn sharp at a higher speed causing the gas to slosh away? Hell, who knows as far as it dieing.

True. If its running fine now I'd ignore it ... obviously the car didn't have enough fuel for a split second but obviously its cleared up now.

I had this happen ONCE when I was going WOT on the onramp. It died, and I just dumped the clutch in 4th going like 50 to start it back up. I pulled over and checked to see if anything was wrong, and couldn't find anything. I'd imagine it COULD be some air or fuel problem.

I've not had the problem since, it might just be a fluke man

I wonder if you were just about out of fuel when you filled up. Then accelerated and drew alittle air. But $8.00 should give you 3 galons, so Idk only guessing. But strange for sure.Like I tell my wife it cost the same to keep it full. These things have low fuel lights.(never seen mine)
