Hood clearance issue - 2001 Cobra vs. 2003 Cobra hood

Hi guys,

I am planning for a motor swap in my 2001 GT and will need more clearance under the hood. I know the 2003-04 Cobra hood has more clearance on the underside as compared to the stock 2001 GT hood, but what about the 2001 Cobra hood?

The 2001 Cobra hood seems to be a little taller in pictures as compared to the stock GT hood, but does anyone know if the 2001 Cobra hood has added clearance on the underside like the 03-04 Cobra hood does?

Thanks!

What do you plan on doing to the motor that will need more clearance?

From everything I've read a 99/01 cobra hood is about the same height as a stock GT hood. It's a little bit taller since the GT hood has the liitle dropdown that runs up to the scoop whereas the cobra hood has a reverse scoop style.

And I'm with Dolbs, what are you doing?

I'm putting a 2005 3v in my '01 car. The intake manifold and the t-body sit so much higher. I know of a guy who used a 2000 Cobra R hood with the louvers, it fit nicely. Another guy said the 2003 Cobra hood cleared. I prefer the look of the Cobra hoods much more than the Cobra R or cowl hoods that's why I'm asking about clearance. Thanks guys.

I understand the 2001 is the reverse scoop, but i'm wondering specifically about the underside clearance. Does the 2001 Cobra hood have the same clearance underneath as the 2003 Cobra? I know it's hard to guess at, but maybe someone has done the swap and can share? Thanks guys.

Well seeming as gt hood doesn't clear my 98 cobra intake and that's the same as 01 intake the 99 cobra hood is obviously a little taller.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Stephen, yes that makes sense, if your gt hood didn't fit but your Cobra hood does then i guess it has to be taller, unless the Cobra used shorter motor mounts?

Not sure how tall an 05 3v is, but I put a cobra motor under my 1999 GT hood. Only thing I had to do was take off the throttle cable bracket on the intake and grind it down a little bit.. I can't imagine the 3v being taller than a v4..
Best of luck
Jason
