Welding the torque boxes?
Well I tried to install my torque box reinforcements tonight and I failed. I can only get my drill to drill one hole on each side, my damn exhaust is in the way. I can't drop it because someone wasn't very professional and welded the midpipe to the rest of the exhaust and its all one big piece. By the looks of it though, I can weld around the torque box and am curious if that is just as good of a solution. It would be much easier for me to just lay a few beads down vs getting everything out of the way for my drill.
Anyone want to buy an almost used UPR torque box reinforcements?

Are your torque boxes already seperating? If they aren't, then welding the seams can help, but if they're already seperating, like mine were, you have to get the repair kit to pull them back together, and then have them welded in when you're done.

I ripped out my passenger side TB like a year after I bought my car in 01. Ford wouldnt warranty it though because I had gears, at least that was thier stance on it. They wanted to charge 600 to fix both of them, even though only one was broken..preventative fix. I got a local mustang guy to weld em for 50 bucks and he did it in under 20 mins. Havent had a problem since.

If you do weld them, dont forget to unhook your battery, and I also unplug the ecu just to be safe

i got lucky, i ran 3 years without any TB mods. 2 with 3.73s and then last year with 4.10s and hard launches at the track and never had any problems. But i did the TB kit for this year just to be safe

Thanks a lot guys, looks like ill be welding them. For anyone who plans on getting the LMR kit, plan on getting a few washers.

I got a couple pictures of the lower torque box repairs, but on a jack, I couldn't get in there to show the uppers. Excuse the sloppy welding up in the boxes, I'm not the world's best welder to begin with, and then there's no room to work up in there....... lol
4.10's, sticky tires, and HPM Megabite SRs set on KILL (135%) were the death of mine. Mine are the Wild Rides Battle Box repair kit. ![]()
