just went and looked and even if my belt was 3" smaller, there is not tab or anything that would be in the way. We MAY have different style idlers from windsor to romeo. Not sure though.

i still dont think thats your problem. I would put a belt on and turn it over a few times or just let it run for 30 seconds or whatever to get the belt running where it is going to run and then just check it all out. SOMEWHERE, you will find SOMETHING out of align!
In your 2nd pic, i notice that it looks a lil off if you try to look at blower pulley, alt pulley, and water pump pulley but it may just be due to the angle of the pic. If you hover over the blower you will be able to tell if its straight or not. If it is, then id move to the 2 idlers.

well thats something you will have to check on site to see if it is causing the problem. This type thing is an on site ordeal. Wish you were near! lol.
Never knew that idler issue. Id check into it more now after reading that.

I had to run a washer between the timing cover and the blower bracket on the lower bolt and stud of my procharger setup to basically shim the blower to line up correctly. I shredded 2 belts before I figure this out and corrected the angle. Every car is different and will need different amounts of shimming in order to properly line up the blower pulley with the rest of the system.
Note: The blower pulley only needs to be very slightly mis-aligned to shed the hell out of some belts. |

Yeah somethings out of wack. My expensive ass kit from KB didn't align right either. And the tab is to get the belt tighter if you grind it off. Makes it easier to put belt on... but your problem is alignment not belt tightness. Something is either rubbing, or out of alignment so it jumps a rib then shreds it.

Well I looked at my blower idle and it is CROOKED! I was like shit! lol. And it's hard to eye ball the blower to the idle! Is there some secret besides the "eye balling" trick. I mean yeah I can shim it but if I cant tell if it's aligned there isn't a point.
Thanks dudes...but I still need to figure this out!

Look at the belt angle, if it is at all twisted. If the idlers are off then it is pretty obvious. But if it is subtly off then look if the belt is angled or twisted at all. Thats how i found my problem. I have shredded 2 belts for not being aligned, and one because the belt wasn't tight enough and jumped a rib (was probably when it wasn't completely dialed in alignment too).
So get a small flat edge and see if you can find a twisted angle on the belt. If it is not eye ball able

FUCK! I worked on the blower today and I had the pulleys aligned(to what I could see) but the idler was crooked so I got that right and then the blower pulley hit the alt housing! SOB idk anymore dudes
