Question

Gearing On my Automatic??Different Kind of ??

Hey so a buddy of mine told me the 3.73 were gonna be too much

1. No traction
2. I wouldn't be able to turn OD off when I hit 120 (donno why???)
3. I won't really feel it??
4. the highest I should go is 3.55???

could someone explain this to me??? the no traction thing I already understand but the rest of it?????? I thought gears would be one of the best mods you could do??????

answers would be helpful... The highest I am going is 3.73 so no I am not comparing 4.10's Great answers recieve rep!

+1, think your buddy may have read that somewhere or was told it and has no personal experience

so I can turn O/D off at 120 on the rare occasion i hit it, I will feel it, and its wont hurt anything other than traction down low!

he said the 3.73's will be about 10th of a second faster is this correct???? roughly 1 car?

I laughed when I read what your friend said lol

1.No traction? I spun with 3:27's. Thats your choice of tires.

2.The 120mph thing. My top speed with 4:10s is 110-112 in 3rd with O/D OFF. YOu dont race with it on. So NEVER race at WOT in 4th aka O/D...

3.Wont really feel it? MMM so the gear change will spin tires but your wont feel it?

4.Thats worth less to go from 3.27's to 3:55.

So yes do 3:73's and you will love them!

thanks scott I have cheapy fierce's on there 80$ a piece installed locally and I cannot spin from a stand still at all or really do donuts these tires grip to damn good lol

when I hit 120 it seems like it shifts up and wont really accelerate I turn OD off and it downshifts and launches again

actually with an auto 4:10's would be more fun since the shifting is done for you, that's what gets old with a stick and low gears. You won't notice much with 3:55's. 3:73's or 3:90's are a great gear esp. if you do a lot of hiway driving. you won't notice too much of a hit in mpg with any choice of above gears

If you turn o/d off, it stays off don't know where that comment came from

I have a 2003 GT auto that I put 3.73's in. I was and am very happy with them. Don't listen to your buddy. Just don't go cheap, buy new gears not used ones.

I also have those Fierce HP tires and think they suck BALLS!!! Can't burn out worth shit in them and they slip going around corners. They are waaaay to hard and don't seem to get that great of traction at all.......
