STS gasket or silicone?

Just picked up a used UPR short throw from another member here - thanks Steve!

Just curious if people have been using gaskets, or using silicone to seal it to the tranny?

I've already purchased a gasket from AM,,,but was just wondering what everyone else was doing.

Also - how do you properly remove the plastic trim from around the shifter? Do you just pull/yank it up? Hidden screws?

Thanks!

I use a gasket. It's only like $10 and it's not a pain in the ass if you ever have to remove it again.

I usually just work my way around the outside with a plastic prybar to get that plastic piece off. It's just clips that hold it on

which way do you pry the plastic to release it? Do you pull UP,,or horizontally? (sorry for the dumb questions,,,don't wanna bust up my interior)

Also,,,did you keep your original leather boot? or toss it completely?

I just slightly pry around until I find where one of the clips is, and then when I find it I pry straight up and it pops the clip.

And yeah I just kept the stock boot

i used silicone just because MGW supplied me with a tube. if they hadn't, i would have just bought a gasket. so far it's working great.

Cool thanks for the info guys! Looks easy as pie to install.

I'll slap it in afterwork soon as the gasket arrives.
