Home made heat shield for CAI
Ok, so I bought a Spectre CAI, the one that the filter just sits in the open without a heat shield or fender connection, from Autozone back when I first got my Mustang before I started to get a clue as to what was what....
![]() NOW I'm trying to figure out a way to fix the setup so that it's not drawing hot engine compartment air. I asked Spectre but they do not make a heat shield for it. I really don't want to buy a new setup sooooo..... I'm thinking about trying to modify the factory OEM plastic box that went around the stock filter and into the fenderwell to fit. It is just a little bit too small to fit the current filter so I was thinking about cutting a V shape on the fenderwell side to open it up for that filter. So it would mostly be surrounded by the stock plastic filter box and would have the inlet back into the fenderwell with just a slight V cut out of it when finished. Does anyone see any problems with this or maybe some better ideas? (Yeah, I know I was an idiot from the start... )

Our cars don't need heat shields like the 5.0's

Still, wouldn't it be better to draw the air from the fenderwell instead of the engine compartment?

I've seen them made out of those rectangular small office trash cans before.

LOL, I never thought of that but I guess it should probably work. I was just gonna use the stock plastic box because it already has the screw holes lined up with the body.
