Problem during a cold start-up

Hey guyz,
I have a problem with my 2000 Mustang GT, when i try to start the engine in the morning (its cold), it starts for half a second the rpm raises and then the engine shuts down, unless if i manualy push the accelerator untill the engine gets warm. Some told me there must be a problem with the (Automatic Choke). Is that right? if so, can I fix it at home? and how?

Thank you in advance.

Abdulla

You don't have a choke its fuel injected. You do have an IAC (idle air control). That that is usually the cause of most idle problems. Although it could be basic like a fuel filter (not enough pressure when you crank it). Have you done tune up lately?

How cold is it?

when the engine is warm i have no issues, it starts properly.
and when its cold, i accelerate it a little and the rpm stays stable (not bouncing), unless if i remove my foot from the gas, the rpm starts to go up and down, and then shuts down..!

Tune i mean tune up. Spark plugs, fuel filter, check air filter. And clean IAC after, although that can help sometimes it doesnt cure it. Start with tune up if you haven't done it before...
