351w into 99-04 Mustang
Greetings from Michigan... I am new to this forum, so I will start off with hello. I have been searching this forum for information regarding doing the 351w swap. I have found some interesting posts so far but my situation is a little unique.
First off, I currently own a 94 Mustang GT with the following mods... 351w, AFR 185's, TFS cam, Edelbrock RPM intake, 75 mm throttle, 77mm Pro-M, Tremec TKO, Tweecer RT. I have been interested in purchasing a convertible. I like the 99 and newer style. So my thoughts were to purchase a 99 and newer and swap my parts into the 99. The difference would be that I want to go with a 7r40w from a v6 for boltup purposes. My biggest question is to decide how to go about fuel injection. My first thought was to use the harness from my 94. Then I go to thinking about the wiring in the 4.6. Has anyone tried fabricating the sensor plugs to accept the pushrod? I dont see how it would be too difficult seeings that you are still working with 8 cylinders and the computer should adjust especially with using a tweecer. I thought maybe with this route it would be easier to run the digital odometer and keep pats. Any thoughts to this? |

Hm.
Given a few things, it might make it a bit tricky. I'd recommend sticking with the 94 computer. There are a few variables that would make using the 99-04 computer a bit tricky. |

I am sure that there is a lot more that the computer controls especially with alternator, a/c, etc. It was just an idea that I thought of. I have also thought that maybe I should just stick with another 94-95. The 99-04 is just so tempting though.

You would have a hell of a time trying to make a modular engine computer work with a pushrod engine. Most of the interior and gauges are the same from 94-2004, so putting in a 94 computer wouldn't be too much of a stretch IMO.

Does anyone know if the 7r40w harness in the 96-04 has the same pigtail as what the 94-95 would have?

their simular but at a minimum you'll have to change the pin orientation. best bet is to call Alan (dirty dog link in my sig.) he'll let you know what you need. oh & its a 4r70w in the newer cars, you have an AOD-E.

I know the 94-95's came with the aode but I want the 4r70w for the lower first gear plus they can handle more horsepower.

I mentioned the trans models to help explain the diffrence in the plug orientation, I know why you'd want to change (ie. gear ratio, better trans components, etc)
