removing stainless 'MUSTANG' letters
So I have some stainless M-U-S-T-A-N-G letters in my bumper currently - from the previous owner. Little too ricey for me.
I recently bought matte black vinyl ones from AM. What should I use,,,,or 'how' should I go about removing the stainlesss letters? They seem very well adhered right now. I'd like to remove them without damaging them,,,,,maybe I could sell them. Should I pour Dykem over them? Any suggestions on what kind of remover to use that won't damage the paint? Thanks!

I'd just get a heat gun and get some fishing line or piano wire back there and "saw" through the adhesive. Spray a little WD-40 on there every once in a while to help eat/cut through. Then I'd just use Brakleen or WD-40 to get the rest of the adhesive off.
I'll buy the stainless ones from you if they don't get butchered up taking them off.

All the letters are currently in good condition,,,except I ever so slightly bent the 'T' as it caught my shorts one day. Because it's still attached to the car I can't get enough force to bend it back. But once it comes off I'll correct it - almost unnoticeable but I'm picky.
Sure,,I'll be happy to sell'm. I plan to take my time, and be very careful with the removal. I'll let you know when I do, and get you some pics. I have a ton of chemicals/cleaners at work,,but was worried about dissolving my paint I'll try the WD-40 approach first,,then maybe use some Dykem. I gotta a heat gun, and plenty of wire,,,so I'll be diving in this week sometime. Here's a pic of'm on the car:

lol I was wondering the same thing since I'm getting my bumper repainted. Hope I can find some way to re-stick them on. They look really good imo

I like how they sit up higher and fill in the depressions better than the vinyl ones... I would just take those and have them sprayed matte black and reinstall them

There's a lot of things that will eat adhesive and not harm the paint. WD40 has always worked for me. What is Dykem? All I got when I googled it was markers and things like that. I would say as long as you take your time it shouldn't be a big deal to get them off, especially with an actual heat gun... Most people just use a hairdryer lol I would use 3M moulding tape or emblem adhesive. I used the tape to help hold down my hood scoop and it seems to be holding pretty damned well. I used the adhesive to glue my pony to my billet grille and it's holding strong even though there is very little contact area. I would think either of those routes would be fine since they are holding my stuff on that is always facing 60-70mph winds whereas those back letters aren't.

Ha,,,I guess I could just stick the vinyl matte black stickers directly over the top of the stainless ones! Or repaint them. I had not thought that do fill in those holes, so they don't look so sunken in.
Here's some info on Dykem, good stuff. When in doubt we reach for the Dykem, and it will clean/dissolve just about anything. ITW Dymon l Dykem l Remover & Cleaner l Remover & Cleaner ...think I'll just pull these off for now, and go with the flat black. Trying to keep the color scheme red/black.

I don't know if I'd use that Dykem. It's used for cleaning metal surfaces so I'm guessing it would dissolve paint and stuff like that. You might want to call and ask first on that one.

They r held on with 3m automotive tape to begin with. So Try and get all the old adhesive off and go to walmart or whereever and buy a roll of 3m automotive tape. Cut the amount u need and stick em back on. That'd work right? Ha

There is sticker/adhesive remover made by the same people who make PB Blaster. Don't use a heat fun! Spray it down and let it set. Then use some thin floss if needed. Trust me, it works!

BTW, the stuff I'm talking about is safe for paint/clear coat. It's sold right next to PB Blaster at Advanced.

Why do you say not to use a heat gun? My brother in law does collision work for a living and he's always told me to use a heat gun to heat up the glue, use some sort of cleaner that will eat at it, and use fishing line to saw the adhesive off.
