Ran out of gear

Ok so last night i was driving home and found the local highway wide open. So i though id see how fast she would go.

I was going along and then hit the rev limiter at 142 mph. Now my question is, is that the end of my gearing? I did some research tonight and found that to be the end of 3rd gear. 6000rpm with 3.08 gears and 24.5 " tires.

Now is that normal to top out there? Or did it not shift into 3rd? Iv never taken her up that fast before and didnt know if that was normal.

Not sure if O/D was off, at 140+ i didnt want to look down. I just kept my eyes on the road and let the GPS tell me at the end what i did.

Was the problem that O/D was off or something?

no you want it OFF. was I was N/A I did 143 with 3:27's..downhill but still do 143. I think is had some more.

With 3:08's you should have a little bit more tho.

Shouldnt it of shifted into 4th though? Why didnt it shift?

no you dont. You dont want it to shift in 4th at WOT. You turn O/D off run you go WOT. BUt before you hit the gas turn it off then make sure the car downshifts then hit the gas!

I'm pretty sure the car doesn't go into OD at WOT, so it wouldn't matter if you turned it off or not.

since a mustangs susp, steering & brakes are all maxed out well before 142, I'd say don't worry about going faster. that being said, at your power level you most likely were in o/d to get it going that fast.

Well i have 260rwhp so i think i can get it going faster. I mean it didnt have a problem going to 142.

I was just disappointed that it couldn't hit 150.

how fast do you want to go? mustangs aren't top speed cars, the don't have the equipment for it in close to stock form.

Drag racing is what i do. I just had one of those, I wonder how fast this thing goes kind of nights.

Iv never tryed to top it out before in all the time iv owned it lol.

I'm just messing with you man, its all good. just be carefull of top speed runs if you start doing drag style susp. mods before you kill yourself.
