Anyone who has degreed the SOHC motor GET IN HERE!

Its not the timing or degreeing that im having the problem with. Its getting T.D.C.. The process is simple u put the degree wheel on the crank n turn the motor over by hand - yea i get that - I turn the motor clockwise and everythin is fine, i got to turn the crank counterclock wise and the crank bolt loosens up! I cant for the fucking life of me get the motor to turn counterclock wise without the crank bolt backing its self out of the crank. I have alread had problems gettin the bolt tight (ie: stripping the crank bolt on the first few threads) cleaned out the threads in the crank and got a new bolt, n the same thing happened! i either get it tight n the degree wheel wont move or its too lose n turning counterclock loosens it up! ANY SUGGESTIONS!?!?! i would use a Crank Socket, i have looked around n seems there are none for our crank. maybe im wrong tho. REPS TO WHOEVER HELPS!

if you dont have to turn it back far you could just stick a prybar in it and move it thats how i held mine still so i could loosen the boltbut be carefull not to put to much pressure on it or ya might break something

I just did mine but i didnt have a problem with that when i built it. but the bolt all the way in till it starts turning the crank. Then give the ratchet a quick jerk as an impact would do to get it just a lil bit tighter. then get the crank where you want it. When finished give it the quick jerk to loosen it.

Make sense?

yea makes sense, but like i said when i do get it tight enough to turn it the other way, its too tight to move the degree wheel.

Its going to take longer, but just spin the crank clock wise the whole time til you are on the other side of TDC. it will take a little longer, but it will work for you.

Take some loctite and put it in there... when you need the bolt back out get a breaker bar and a torch, heat the crank up and take it out...

I just rebuilt my 4.6 and after finding tdc and getting my cams in time, or any time id turn the crank id put my car into gear (5 speed) so the was resistance going against the motor as i tightened the crank bolt with my breaker bar, once i got it fairly tight I would put it back in neutral to check for clearance and then back into gear to break the bolt loose again.... but i also didnt use a degree wheel for tdc

I used an impact and the proper length bolt, when you roll over to the stop then back to the stop(your using a stop?) then loosen bolt with impact and turn wheel to split difference and retighten.

also if I remember the pulley is keyed and if you can get a cresent behind wheel, just open wrench just enough to go over crank(tight fit) and when you turn wrench against key it will turn/hold engine...make sense?
