Question

Reasonable gear install price

I purchased 4:10 gears and I am shopping around the install. What is a reasonable install price?

Also should I trust just any shop to install?

Thanks for the help

dunno if i would trust just ANY shop to do it. Try and choose one with a good reputation. I would not let "Luther from down the street" do it.

Going rate around here is $250 plus parts. I got mine done for $200 with a discount because I belong to a local Mustang club that sends the shop a lot of business.

additional question...

The car has been driven by my buddies wife since new (1 owner) and never been driven hard and has 46,000 miles on it. I dont think I need to buy a bearing kit. Anybody have any input on whether or not I need to?

Go to Dez Racing in Seekonk MA. Brian will do the gears, my 4.10's came out great. Only $300.

i would go ahead and do it. i mean weather its hard driving or normal they are parts that wear. why not replace them while the rear is open. no sense in not doing it and say 30k miles down the road they wear out you'd have to open it all back up. so i'd say spend the money now. my 2 cents

It took him like 3-4 hours. And they came out unbelievable. No noises, it feels great. Gears can easily be messed up. Its not the easiest thing. You need to drop the axles, so you need the space to do that, you need to disasemble the differential etc....

Yea for sure. Give them a call. Mike Dezotell (owner) tunes the cars, hes a good guy. And Brian is the mechanic, hes a really good guy. Set up an appointment, and get an estimate. No more than $350 in labor I promise.

i just finished building my rear. blew it out at the track. took me 3 weeks. and first thing i did was launch it at 6k with slicks and it held just fine. this is not extremly hard just time consuming and tight tolerences to play with. look up ajm he pretty much walked me through the install. just saying if you want to give it a shot.
