I would say run a 255/45 which is a hair over 26". Lots of drag racers around here run a 26" tire unless they are running high trap speeds.

Sorry homie. Just saw this. I was contimplating this same thing for a while. I was going to get some 255/45/17's like dcook said. I decided not to do this though as drag radials would have bumped me up to Domestic Advanced here. So I decided to stick to a 245/45 hard tire. I have 4.10's as well but am only running 1/8th mile.

I would have gone with 275/40/17's they fit just fine and are just under 26" tall.

If it's strictly a drag wheel then by all means go with the wider tire in the 275 series, but if it's a DD car I personally wouldn't run anything bigger than I do now which is the 255/45/17. Even with the max 40 psi of pressure they feel squishy in the corners

I have 4:30's and my DR is a 275/40/R17, but I like a wide tire, I DD on 315's.

Yeah, but what size are the rims you have the 275's on? On the 8" wheel that is to bg.

Nope ran 275's on the stock 17x8's and fit fine and felt fine driving. And I used a regular street tire then and it still hooked up better then the stock size 245/45/17. You guys realize that a 255/45(26.1") is taller then a 245/45 right? And a 275/40(25.7") is a tad shorter then the 245/45(25.9"). I also love the look of wide tires. Just food for thought.

I agree you can run a 275/40/17 Nitto DR on an 8" wheel with no issues.
Nitto dr's run narrow from my experiences, I used to DD on 315 Nitto's on a 9" wheel and they didn't bulge or look weird at all. LOT of Cobra guys run this combo

315's on a 9" with no bulge? I would have to see that. All the 275's I have seen on 8" rims bulged. I have never seen a Nitto setup though, I know Nittos run narrow.

Proper is all in how you look at it. I mean hell there's guys out there that strech 275's on 10.5" rims and think it looks awsome and is the "proper" fit. A nitto won't buldge nearly as bad as other brands mt being the worst. For somebody looking to get the most contact patch possible without buying another set of wheels then a 275 is for them.

I have 17x8" stock GT wheels and I am wanting to get some DR's for the rear. They will only be used for the 1/4 miles. I was tinking a 275 will be safe. With that being said however, what M/T's is everyone so crazy about...is it the M/T Streets or something? People are telling me Nitto's don't hook for shit.

should you run Drag Radials in the front as well or that doesn't matter as much?

If it's track only duty then don't get a drag radial. Get a bias ply DOT approved slick, like the MT et street or the Hoosier quick time pro.

The only reason people around here run drag radials so much is because they have to drive them on the streets. Those bias ply dot slicks are DOT approved but would wear quickly on the street and in the rain they'd feel like you were at an astroglide party
