Exhaust Ideas.....I can't decide
Ok my car should be ready to have some new pipes on it in a few days. Now I'm trying to decide what to go with
![]() To start I want to say money isn't an issue. As I have stated my uncles own an exhaust shop so all of its going to custom made with what ever I like I'm planning on going with an X pipe with Flowmaster 40's and well.....Reducing those 6 converters to 2 or none. They could bend the pipes and do it as well as put inserts for the oxygen sensors to go in but my concern is actually losing low end power (the only kind I really care about as the longest strip around here is an 1/8th mile track). I already have short tube headers. As I stated before I've seen it done on a 97 nPI and it killed the power IMO. The engine Im using is a 01 PI Engine but I have the Coil setup from a pre COP (using a 97 ECU). I could send the ECU off later and get the Oxy's taken care of to eliminate the problem later I just want to ride the damn thing now ![]() Someone convince me 1 way or the other please! |

I heard you say this in another thread, but going with an o/r midpipe (one with no cats) doesn't kill any down low power. There is a little less backpressure so it's technically going to suffer a little bit, but not enough to notice. I'd go with a different muffler if you want an x pipe though. X pipes sound best with straight thru mufflers and H pipes sound good with chambered mufflers.
I'd do a full 2 1/2" exhaust with an o2 sensor mounted close to the header flange on each pipe, then the X over, then hook up with some SLP LMII's or Magnaflow Magnapacs, then regular flowtubes from there with nice tips to finish it off

hey cook i think you have it backwards. straight through mufflers sound like ass with an x-pipe. way too raspy. or at least it is in my case.
so its x-pipes with chambered or h-pipes with straight through

^wrong. It is H w/ chambers and X w/ straight through.
EDIT: All will sound raspy w/ an O/R X but it's way more raspy w/ chambered mufflers than it is w/ straight through |

dont do flowmasters. Everyone has flowmasters and they dont sound that good. There are a lot of better mufflers out there.

yeah sorry wrenchead you have it backwards. these engines are raspy, the best way around it is an H pipe and chambered mufflers.

hahaha it's ok. Here's something to listen to...
O/R X and Flow 40's O/R H and Flow 40's O/R X and Magnaflow You can tell it sounds like straight throughs should use a x pipe and not the chambered mufflers but it really comes down to preference. I like the sound of an O/R X and chambered mufflers. This is the setup I will be going to in the next month or so... |
