I've always just rubbed the silver ones with a lady's fingernail file until the copper started showing, cleaned them with electrical contact cleaner and a Q-Tip and plugged the chip in. Never had a problem doing it that way in the 10 years I had to deal with plug in chips.

Thank god for handheld tuners though, I used to hate pulling the ECU out of the kickpanels, it was always near impossible to get them back in correctly.

It doesn't matter if you scratched off the stuff in-between the copper strips. I did that on my last stang and it made no difference.

lol thanks sr330 thats what i wanted to hear. Do you have to make the copper show ive read older computers need the copper showing more than newer ones. like i say i certainly have no experience lol. i just wanna get this right the first time cuz your right its a f*ckin nightmare taking it out i can only imagine how bad putting it back in is. and i still have to install the chip and switch.

Yeah just scratch the strips til they turn copper. Also most people just stick the computer back into the plastic holder without bolting everything back up.

Lol definitely bolt the connector back into the comp. I meant bolting all the wires that hang infront of the comp to the brackets rather than just pushing them to the side.

You don't really have to use anything. The main thing is just to get all the junk off the contacts.
