Factory Paint?

So I started detailing my new Mach, and man, the factory SUX, at painting....There is orange peel over the entire car. Does anyone know if the factory clear, with hold up to a wetsand and buff, or is it too thin? I have an 04 DSG Mach 1.

I was planning on having a friend that works at a body shop do it.

From what Ive read/heard, in 2003 the paint on the Ford cars sucks. It chips really easy, and orange peels and just shitty overall. Idk if you have an 03 or 04 Mach.

But anyways, yea have ur friend do it. You want someone that knows what their doing to do that. Like Baker said Be easy on the edges.

It is an '04. I posted up on Mach1registry, and every one there said dont do it, it will severly weaken the paint. I just REALLY hate orange peel. I detail the car frequently, so it is very noticeable to me.

No offense, but people on Mach1registry would rather keep their mach below 10,000 miles than anything else. Dont listen to them they suck.

Seriously one guy brags about how his Mach 1 has like 2,xxx miles on it. Like dude, you must be enjoying that car. What do you do? Go out in the garage and stare at it?

lol... they said dont do it because what!? lol. All you are doing is sanding a SLIGHT amount off. Be sure that when you get done you go all the way around the car waxing it. after buffing it out the clear will be VERY exposed. You need to put some wax on it right when you get it back (if shop doesnt do it). You want something protecting that new finish!

He said that wetsanding the factory paint would significantly decrease the durability.. there just isnt enough clear on the car. The sealant and wax would be applied right after. I like to detail my car (thats why the orage peel bothers me so, with a good polish, seal, and wax the OP is very visable).

Baker would it be worthwhile to scuff the car and re-clear the entire thing?

That much more involved, emblems, trime, etc. Plus Mach's have those flat black decals.

lmao dcook.

Anyways, listen to Baker on that. It wont decrease the durability. Thats what they would do at detail shops anyways. My dad did it on his 03 Mach 1 because he had some orange peel, and it came out fine. Nothing wrong whatsoever

Sweet deal man. Itll look awesome.

Like I said man, try not to look for advice on Mach1 Registry. I think these are absolutley the best forums for asking questions. Thats why I have almost 2000 posts sence september of 2009

The car has plenty clear on it. Go have it done and be

no cook, too much money to clear the car again. And it would still probably need to be sanded and buffed if he is looking for this slick as glass look.
