People who want to go Supercharger...READ

A lot of people on here latley have been going towards the supercharger route. So I wanted to make a post to help you go in that direction.

Why you should:

Building a supercharger can be as expensive as buying cams, springs, retainers and install. Thats roughly $2,000. If you look in my sig I have a link where I put togeather, and many other people have put togeather a kit for under $2000.

The gains will literally be 5-6x greater than cams. And making more power is a pulley away (as long as you have the fuel to do so)

Vortech Vs Procharger Vs Paxton:

Everyone has their own opinion, and people will say Procharger is better, or Paxton is better, or Vortech is better.

Me, I got a great deal on the headunit, and Ive heard great things from Vortech. Plus the V1 is so loud. I personally like Vortech. But If I had money, I may have just bought a new Warrantee'd Procharger Kit.

Head Units:

Mustang owners (96-10+) need Counter Clockwise Rotation headunits. Heres a list of Head units:

Vortech V1
S-Trim, T-Trim
Vortech V2
S-Trim, Sq-Trim, Si-Trim, T-Trim
Vortech V3
Sq-Trim, T-Trim

Procharger
P1-SC
D1-SC
F1-A

Paxton Novi
1200
1500
2000
2200

Intercoolers:

Ive been getting a lot of P.M's latley on intercoolers. "Which intercooler should I get?" or "Should I get an intercooler?" etc..

Without an intercooler, your IAT's (intake air temps) will be high, because the Headunit runs hot, and compressed air in general is hot. You dont "have" to run an intercooler, but its a good insurance upgrade, itll make more power, cooler IAT's etc.

The Intercooler I try to get people to buy is here:

CX Racing Intercooler with BOV

For the price, you cant go wrong. Comes with the BOV, the pipe with the BOV flange, the IC, and all the piping.

Dont forget with an intercooler, the car will make less boost. As theres more volume to fill. The supercharger has to shoot all that compressed air probally about 7 feet of piping, and fill the intercooler too. Down below Ill post how much boost youll make with Pulleys.

Powerpipes:

Ive heard mixed opinions on powerpipes. About how much boost they will give you. Ive heard 0, Ive heard 3psi. It will give you some rwhp.

Anderson Ford Motorsport makes them, and Modular Powerhouse makes them. You can get them for around $220.00.

Intercooler vs Aftercooler:

As many people will tell you, aftercoolers are very ineffcient. They use water too cool them down, and after 1 track run or a race or whatever the water will be hot, and hotter IAT's. You can use ice to cool it down, but it wont make your problem go away for good.

Intercoolers will keep a much more efficient rate of cooler IAT's. As its pushing cool air through it. And cooler IAT's makes for more horsepower, and better ET's at the track.

Pulley Sizes:

BOOST WILL CHANGE PER HEADUNIT. Boost will drop, but power will be higher (Thanks mell0)

Vortech:

Discharge (No intercooler or aftercooler)
Boost will be a lot easier to make because its pushing compressed air only about 1ft to the motor. These are estimates, not exact numbers:

3.6 Pulley - 10psi
3.33 Pulley - 12-13psi
Anything smaller will probally be too much for the stock bottom end.

Aftercooler:

3.6 Pulley - 8psi
3.33 Pulley - 10psi
3.12 Pulley - 12psi
2.87 Pulley - 13+psi

Intercooler:

3.33 Pulley - 6-8psi
3.12 Pulley - 8-10psi
2.87 Pulley - 10-12psi
2.62 Pulley - 13+psi

Im not sure on Procharger but from what Ive heard:

3.6 Pulley - About 10psi
3.4 Pulley - About 12psi

Hopefully mell0, Baker or Scott can chime in here

Belt Sizes:

Vortech

3.6 Pulley = 108" Belt
3.33 Pulley = 108" Belt
3.12 Pulley = 107.5" Belt
2.87 Pulley = 107.5"-107.38" Belt
2.62 Pulley = 107.38" Belt

You can buy Goodyear Gatorback Belt at Autozone or Summitt for $35.

Procharger, Im not sure, again hopefully mell0, Baker or Scott can chime in here.

MAF:

Mass Air Flow, Theres 2 kinds.

Draw Through (like our stock ones)
Blow Through

The general rule of thumb is, intercooled you should run a Blow Through, no Intercooler you can run a Draw Through.

Blow Through allows you to run your Bypass valves open, and tuners love to tune with blow through.

90mm Lightning Draw Through

PMAS Blow Through MAF

SCT Big Air Blow Through MAF

Fuel Injectors:

With boost on the stock bottom end you can run 39lb or 42lb Fuel Injectors. A good thing to run if your eventually looking for big numbers are 60lb Injectors

Fuel Pump:

255lph Focus Fuel Pump

Ford GT Supercar Fuel Pump

The 255lph is a direct bolt in. And from what Ive heard can handle 380rwhp without a Boost a Pump (BAP details below)

Ford GT Pump needs modification's. Very easy though. Mine hit max duty cycle at 370rwhp. But people have hit 425+ without a boost a pump.

Kenne Bell Boost a Pump:

20amp for single Pump

40amp for dual Pumps

I bought mine used for $160. Works fine. It works as an amplifier and generates for volatage for the fuel pump. For example:

With my Ford GT Pump, my fuel pump hit max duty cycle at 5,500rpm with 370rwhp.

With my 20amp Boost a pump, Im now at 384rwhp and only 82% duty cycle.

Only takes about a half hour to install and is very easy.

Spark Plugs:

You need to run 1 step colder plugs, and gap them from .030-.035. Use neversieze.

Custom Tunes:

Dyno tuning for a supercharger will run from $200-$500 depending on the location and the tuner. You absolutley need a tune to go WOT. Some cars may be able to be driven without a base tune, but dont go WOT.

You can usually email your tuner, and he will send you a base tune to drive the car there.

I hope this helps. If you have any questions, PM me.

good stuff, but don't forget the boost is going to change per head unit. for example, a p1sc makes 8 lbs with a 3.85inch pulley, but a d1sc will make 8 lbs with a 4 inch pulley, so the pulley sizes to boost comparisons aren't going to be the same with all the vortech head units, or all the procharger head units. just something to consider.

and it's called the F1-A, not the F1-SC.

and don't forget the aviator pump either. supposedly flows in between the GT and svt focus pump, but requires no modification to fit in.

However, if you're slowly building up a kit, you will get bored in the waiting process and will wish that you hadn't sold your cams for parts that you can't install yet.

I gotta disagree with you. Theres nothing better knowing you got a steal on something. And your saving up for something better. Unless it takes you like 6 months to save up for everything then I guess I could see where ur coming from.

Building a kit would take less time to save up for a new kit anyways, and get it for less than half the price

Procharger as 2 different intercoolers. 3 core and 2 core.(there is a race type too) but a 2 core will take a less boost than a 3 core. With a P1sc and a 3.4 pulley I make 10psi at 6k. Thats with a 3 core intercooler. WIth a 2 core I could prob so 11 or so. WIth a D1sc I would be about 15 or so.

Prochargers use a 107.xx belt for a 4in to 3.4 pulley.

You could also mention rib setups!

also 39lbs injectors are ev6 injectors. You will need adaptors to work. YOu can find them on 03-04 Cobras.
