installed new throttle body and plenum...issues

installed a 70mm accufab throttlebody and plenum today, car drives fine, but the rpms are hanging like crazy now. mostly around the 1500 to 2000rpm mark. Also, if I pop the hood, and just barrrrely move the butterfly valve open, it jumps up in idle and sticks there until it settles down again. This sound like vaccuum leak? or...? Also I unhooked the battery and started the car again, still doing it, I have only drove it twice for about 10 minutes each time, do you think the computer just needs to learn the new airflow or the hanging rpms are caused by something else...

Not to mention, when I just barely touch the butterfly valve, you can hear like a sucking or tiny hissing noise. The throttle body was installed with an intake spacer too, and all gaskets were used so I'm clueless.

Not to be the one that says "just search" but do a quick search about that problem on here. Seems to be a common thing with the accufab tb. Dont remember exactly how people have fixed it though. I know bakerfx4 in particular had a problem with it.

I did search a bunch but no one seemed to resolve it. One guys saying adjust the screw for the idle, another one swears against that. One guy says a vaccum leak and the other says it just takes a day or two for the car to fix itself. Seems to be a lot of variance in the answers.

Well in that case.

1. dont mess with the adjustment screw unless you know how to check the tps voltage. If not youll prolly just make things worse

2. vacuum leak makes sense but youve gotta be a retard to install a simple tb/plenum and then have a vacuum leak..missing a hose or something makes sense, we all make mistakes but the chances of actually messing something up are very slim

3. its possible. Clear your KAM if you have a tuner or disconnect the battery for a while, reconnect it and see how the car does in about 50 miles or so. But as far as I know that hasnt solved this particular problem with the accufab for anyone.

I want to say baker said the guy doing his tune did something to fix it. I could be wrong though I dont remember exactly.

ya all the hoses are on fine, like I said it just seems to do it when you give it a small shot of gas, and up go the rpms and it sticks there for probably 5 seconds, then settles back down. Guess I'll drive it tomorrow to work and see what happens.

lol we all miss shit here and there, what I mainly meant was theres no way youre gonna install a tb/plenum and break something that would cause it to mess up rather than leaving something disconnected.

Lol yea I agree. I have heard some not so great things from Accufab's TB/Plenum. The TB cause's idle problems or sticks. The Plenum needs to be sanded down on the inside. And for the price...GTFO. I like my C&L Plenum for $115 and my Mac 70mm Throttle Body for $110

Just cleared the KAM with the computer, still doing it, when the revs are hanging, theres a hissing noise coming from, I'm not sure what its called, it bolts into the right side of the plenum, not the IAC up front, what evers on the side a flat round thing, EGR? Anyways the hissing is coming from there. I did notice too when I screwed that back on, it was harder to aline the bolts because of the spacer being on there and I had to pull up pretty hard on the metal line. Still though, with the gasket and all that, seemed to sit nice.

Mine did that when I put my gasket on upside down. That might be the reason why urs isnt idling right

I'll check that out tomorrow, I had no idea that one had a right way and a wrong way of putting it on, either that or I just didn't think of it at the time and just threw it on. Is that piece supposed to hiss?

i was the guy with this thread last week drtove me effing mental. finally caved bought a code reader n found out it was a vac leak at the egr valve look there. i dunno if you recall but its a sob getting it back on. I recomend fully removing the egr valv during disassembly and then attaching it to the plenum before putting the plenum in then bolt the metal hose to it. id be willing to bet thi this is ur problem. had the exact same symptoms and kept getting the usual tps voltage etc. i guarantee its nothing that in depth asnd dont waste your time on the screw at the back of the tb it does little to nothing. and dont waste time on base idle nonsense either. PM me if u have anymore questions like i said i went through this just last week. did three weeks of nonsense solutions when it was really the most simplistic problem.

Well if the gasket isnt on right, itll be leaking some air. If you can real quick, go spray right between the throttle body and plenum with starter fluid or whatever and see if it changes it's idle. If so...there ya go.

If not, just dissasemble, and put it on again. You DEFINATLEY have the piece on the back of the plenum (towards the firewall) with a vacuum line on it?

Give it a couple of days for the computer to relearn itself. If you have allready reset your ecu, great, drive it for a couple of days or put about 50 mile on it so the ecu will learn your new setup.
