Question

estimate cost...

Ok so my car was in a rear end collision and the rear axle is offset by probably an inch or so. Apparently my frame is bent and i was just curious the cost of straightening it out again... i understand that i have almost no information on it but i was just curious if anyone knew how much this would cost or if it was possible to even straighten it out again without moving everything around on the bottom end for the worse. thanks

Yea usually when the frame is bent its considered totaled. Which sucks, but it makes sence.

Post pics if you can to give us a better idea

ill put pics up tomorrow if i have enough time... i have never car faxed it, which i totally should have before i bought it. nothing feels wrong with it, it drives very nice and definitely performs normal it just is one of those little things that nobody notices and it bugs the hell out of you just because you want it to be perfect

its only a total loss if the insurance company pays it off. If you dont go through your insurance it shouldnt be. I have seen some pretty bad smash ups pulled out before and depending on who you take it to0 the cost will very. Friend had the rear of a taurus pulled out and bumper painted and the inside of the trunk streightened for $800

We don't have frames, so your frame is not bent. It could be that your control arms bent or tweaked. Now if the control arms are good, then your torque boxes could be twist out of shape. Or the body is tweeked. Without pics it is way to hard to tell you what to expect

you can take it to a shop that does body work and the have a laser that they put under ur car and it measures all the deminsions of ur car and compares them to the originall factory specs and if ur frame or anything else is best they will bend it back out and or weld a new peice of frame on to make it perfect. i think the cost for that is somewhere between 500-2000$ depending on how bad ur car is and if you can drive it then it probly wont be that much.

Its just unsafe to drive because if you get in a wreck the frame is allready weak and wont protect u as good as it would if it wasnt bent.

+1, whats all this "frame" talk with our cars. we've got subframe connectors (atleast some of us do) but no frame. we've got the front clip, and then we've got the control arms and all that.

I've heard of several people "tweaking" their control arms a little bit *one was by sliding sideways and clipping the curb* chances are, if the body still looks good, there wasnt a "rear end" it was something small, that tweaked it.

To get a good idea of what's going on here, you're going to need to take it to a frame alignment shop, or at least to a body shop that advertises doing frame straightening.

so i just got back from this auto body shop that's in my local area and got a free estimate. he looked it over and he said that if the body was shifted over the seems would be different on one side of the car than the other and they arent any different... so i guess now the question is if i really want to take it there and have them scan it with the computer to compare to the factory specs. the only problem is if i do that and they do find that something is shifted, i will have to get everything moved AGAIN, like the exhaust and arms etc.. correct? -sorry, i really dont know much about car mechanics, i just know what stuff does and numbers and such
