Another Wheel/Tire Thread But For My Own Needs
I have a 2000 GT supercharged courtesy of Saleen. I am running 245s all the way around on stock 17 inch aluminum alloys wheels. I spin in first, I just added some power via a pulley upgrade and much better cooling, and I am going with 3.55 gears.
I want to get wider wheels and tires. I am really thinking of staying with 17 inch wheels for tire price. Though 17x10 or 17x10.5s look a little funny with 305+ tires. I am probably going to go with Enkei RPF1s b/c they are so light. They have a 17x10 and 17x9. I am wondering what backspacing to get, what size wheel for front and rear, and what the widest tire is that won't interfere with stock suspension. I saw a 17x10.5 FR500 that looked nice, but those wheels are so HEAVY. I am wondering what people think of 17s v. 18s also. If I can't get a wide enough tire in an 18 inch rim for the rear, I also considered running 17s up front and 18s in the rear. What do people think of that? I haven't seen any pics of mustangs running this setup; it may look goofy. Thanks! |

I say go with the Enkei's, 17x10 in back and 17x9 in front. 295/35/17 in back and 265/40/17 in front.
That's my .02

you can fit a 275 tire on a stock GT Rim... thats a decent improvement over stock just buying tires. Get a good set of sticky tires and call it a day?

Thanks for the response dcook. Yeah, 275s on the 8 inch wheel is too much. I might just keep running the Hankook RS3s I have on the front (245s). The car came with 4 of them, and they are fairly new. Is that too crazy of a difference with 295s out back? I guess 245s on a 9 inch wheel is a little of a stretch too.

Looks like there aren't a lot of tire choices for 295 17 inches.

You could go with a 285/40 like this one from Nitto. It'd fit nice on a 10" rim Nitto Tires 182380 - Nitto NT 555 Tires - Overview - SummitRacing.com
