How Much HP Can Stock GT Bottom End Take?

Thinking about a Procharger for my next mod. But i am not sure how much power the 2v 4.6 can take without forged internals. I'f i've got full bolt-ons, procharger and nitrous, i believe i would be pretty close to needed forged internals. obvoiusly its going to depend on what shot i run, and how much boost.

I thought about a terminator for my next mod, but i would end up spending another 10k in loans to get one. why not put 4-5k on my GT and be happy?

anybody know how much power you can make "safely" (if there is such a word)

400 - 450 rwhp at 6k rpm is definately the most you should push it... and only go that far if you're prepared to drop in a forged shortblock in the even it takes a dump on you. I made 412rwhp for two years without any problems.

ok, thats about what i was thinking. how much $$ would it cost to forge my internals?

I was really thinking about getting a terminator next year, but had a friend trying to convince me to put the money into my 2v.

what do you guys think?

You can get a forged bottom end for cheaper than a terminator swap would cost. And yeah, 400-450 rwhp is usually the max on a stock GT. Like mdvaldosta said, be prepaired to buy a built bottom end if you go that high. I varies from car to car.

so wouldnt it technically be easier to leave it at full bolt-ons + tuned 125 shot? that should put me at 360+ at the wheel minimum. no point using forced induction when i cant go much more than 400hp without getting forged internals.

how much would it cost? do i have my block forged? or do i buy a new one? where would i find/buy one, or where would i get mine done...

If you can afford it get the terminator. I'd leave that car as is and save toward the down payment for the Cobra. I uust saw a black on black '04 Cobra at a dealership last night. God, I love that car. They had it parked directly under a street light. The damn thing just looked sinister.

You could do full bolt ons and a 150 shot if you wanted to. Tha would put you over 400hp I think. Plus the tq #'s made with nitrous are amazing!

I think you'd do better off with getting your car forged instead of paying all the money for a terminator. If you got the engine built for power, it could be built to handle more power than the terminators can handle. But in the end it's all up to you.

dont go into debt to make your car faster. it is not responsible and is stupid. as for that what they have said is spot on. forge your bottem end and be done with it. you will make more than enough power to kill your stock motor with just boost. i wouldnt orry about running two poweradders on a stock car.

Interesting logic, but anything you can rebuild on a 2V you can rebuild on the Cobra to make that much more power than the GT. How many people on here have you seen modify thier 2V and get some really great numbers and then say, "OK, I'm satisfied." Not too many, and for the few that do they change thier mind three months later after they get beat by some souped up import. The point is in the never ending goal to find more power you'd be better off starting with the best base available to you. In this case that would be the Terminator. No matter what you say, if you put the same mods on a GT and a Cobra the Cobra will always see more gains.

um... ya. Cobra vs. GT 2v vs. 4v Cobra's are much nicer, but usually carry a much nicer price tag as well. One day....

+1.... forge your 2v, then throw a s/c on there and run 12-14 lbs of boost and you'll get very happy numbers. kenne bell FTW! imo, having consistant power whenever you want from a s/c is better than having a bottle... your gains might not be as much, but your all around power band will be more consistant.

All very true. And basically what i was already thinking. I'll leave my car sprayed with bolt-ons making around 370 hp. Then, i'll just save and wait for the cobra. Its definitely a better base, and my GT, will NEVER be a cobra.

if you can beat me with 375 @ wheel then thats ok. I just HATE being beat by rice. If you've got 8 cyl, then im fine with it. Really.
