2003-2004 Cobra recall......

Its not offically out yet. But since i just heard about it i would like to let anyone know about it.... I hope it helps.

TO: All U.S. Ford and Lincoln Mercury Dealers

SUBJECT: Awareness Communication: Upcoming Safety Recall 06S43
Certain 2003 and 2004 Model Year Mustang Cobra Vehicles
Accelerator Pedal Shield Installation

REASON FOR THIS COMMUNICATION

To inform you that Ford Motor Company is notifying the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of an upcoming safety recall on the affected vehicles. Parts are not currently available to complete the required repair. Once NHTSA has been informed, there is a possibility that you may be contacted by customers about the recall. This notice will help you answer customer questions.

REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL

The rear surface of the accelerator pedal may come into contact with floor carpeting during heavy throttle application. For those vehicles where the floor carpeting does not fit flush with the sheet metal, the unique rear surface profile of the Mustang Cobra accelerator pedal may catch in the carpet cutout behind the accelerator pedal. This could interfere with the pedal's ability to return to an idle position. As a result, some customers may experience unexpected continued throttle application and/or increased stopping distances.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

Certain 2003 and 2004 model year Mustang Cobra vehicles built at the Dearborn Assembly Plant from March 19, 2002 through April 1, 2004.

SERVICE ACTION

It is anticipated that the complete dealer bulletin announcing this upcoming action will be provided to dealers in mid-April 2006, once parts to repair this condition are available.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

Owners of affected vehicles will not be notified until after dealers have received service repair and parts ordering information. It is anticipated that customer notification will begin in late-April 2006.

not like that problem hasn't been around long before the 03-04 cobra's. the fox bodied t-birds were really bad for this.

Certain 2003 & 2004 Model Year Mustang Cobra Vehicles - Accelerator Pedal Shield Installation

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Technical Information

OVERVIEW

This program involves installing a shield under the accelerator pedal, which will hold the carpet down at the floor and eliminate a potential interference condition between the carpet and the accelerator pedal. See Figure 1.

FIGURE 1

SERVICE PROCEDURE

If equipped, position the driver side floor mat aside.
Position the driver seat as far back as possible.
Remove the accelerator pedal-to-floor retaining nuts and pull the pedal assembly off the studs.
NOTE: Due to the design of the shield and variances in the thickness of the carpet and padding, it may be necessary to push down on the shield/accelerator pedal assembly to allow for nut installation. Be sure the nuts are fully run down before final tightening.
NOTE: Be sure the carpet is tucked under the pedal shield once the shield is installed.
Place the pedal shield onto the studs, then reinstall the accelerator pedal assembly and the nuts. Tighten the nuts to 18 Nm (13 lb-ft). See Figure 2.

FIGURE 2

Reposition the floor mat, if equipped.
Open the hood.
CAUTION: The engine must be off when checking for wide open throttle.
With the help of an assistant, verify the accelerator pedal goes to wide open throttle.

With your hand, press the accelerator pedal towards the floor to the full extent of its travel.
Visually inspect that the lever on the throttle body cam hits the stop on the throttle body.
If the pedal contacts the shield prior to the cam hitting the throttle body stop (wide open throttle not achieved), contact the Special Service Support Center (1-800-325-5621) for further instructions.
Close the hood.
