what is this part?

i found this in the rain water rubber catch? thing? under the hood/windshield:

the black thing at the right end splits four ways, equally, with a square in the middle as the hole. the left end of the spring, right where the hook meets the coils, is where the black thing attaches clip-wise to the spring. so that the right side of the black thing goes into the coils area when the spring is expanded.

i have no idea what it is, and i just found it today, not more than 30 minutes ago. i started hearing a funny sound while driving, sort of like that "string" used on bicycles for brakes and gear selectors, if applicable, and that said string was frayed, and hitting something during movement. once or twice, the sound moved from the driver's front wheel direction, to the opposite side.

so when i got back home, i popped the hood, seeing if i could hear any unusual noises, and all i heard was metal contracting as it lost the heat generated ..

so i start up the engine, seeing if the sound replicated, and no avail. then i just happen to look at the hood, looking at the grounding thing attached to said hood, and wondering what it was for.. and then i caught sight of something shiny - the end of this spring.. in the rubber catch thing below the hood/windshield.

what is it?

the interesting thing about it, is that it is completely worthless. there is a spring setup already on the throttle control thingy... and i didnt/dont need this spring even on there...

unless there is something else i dont know about..

because apparently, ive been driving around with it off for some time now..

I would put it back on if I were you. If your TB spring binds, you are going to be in for one hell of a ride.........

possibly... but id rather have a quicker responding accerating pedal than have a major accident.

plus.. if the tb spring does bind.. i know how to shift into neutral, shut-down, and then continue to putting the at into park. and removing my keys, and responding with choice words at my stupidity, and then marvel at how fun it was, and then think about doing it again.

and a question acmillr - in your siggy pic - you state 297/307 figures.. you put ~35 hp but only 5 tq? id do it the other way

i don't wanna speak for adam, but upgrading your cams give you hp, not torque.

Keep it off! It makes a much better story after you wreck the car.

WTF are you talking about? That's about a 70-80 HP gain and I don't even know how much torque. This is amazing- I'm getting schooled by someone who doesn't know what a throttle spring is. I'm pretty sure that you don't know this, but a stock GT usually churns out about 225 HP.
