Faceplated TR-3650 Build (Probably the only one in existance)

I had another thread with most of this info in it but it was a run on thread and hard to follow. So heres the real thread of the fabricating process.

2nd race of this season my synchro for 3rd went out. The common problem with the 3650. We first tried to convert it over to a crash box but the factory sliders could not handle it and ended up rounding over the teeth of the slider. I was originally going to buy the TSB rebuild kit from D&D Performance, but after talking with my dad he said we could do something for way less than what the kit was and make it last longer than another synchro setup. Here are some of the pics in the works. Now mind you the car is more of a track car now than anything so streetability isnt a huge concern.

Machined the synchro teeth off the gears and machined that area down to 3" for the new pieces to shrink on and get welded to.

Dog rings are being machined out of 8620 so everything can be heat treated once finished. Here are a few pics of the dog rings

This is the side that will go onto the sliders.

And this is the style that will be on the gears once finished

We are going to make a new slider for 3-4 out of a thicker piece of material instead of mating 3 pieces together

With the centers cut out of the new dog rings, they are ready to be shrunk and welded to the gears. Once welded I can face them off and then send them out for heat treating. Next is to start working on the new 3-4 gear slider

\

The lugs are back cut 5* to help stay in gear under acceleration

I will post more pics when i get more machining done. This afternoon I will be butting the back cut into the teeth so they wont pop out of gear when

Update:
1-2 slider- needs to be welded yet and back cut put on the teeth but it is shrunk onto the factory slider.

1-2 slider is finished and ready to be heat treated.

3-4 slider is almost finished, Just need to spline the ID and then cut the groove for the shift fork.

No, the rings were put in the oven at 500* for 2 hours and the gears in the freezer for 2 hours just to get them mated together. After final machining they will then be sent out to get heat treated
