Mach 1 owners, some help?
A while back I posted about putting a 03 04 cobra motor in my 97 GT. I have had a hard time locating one of these engines locally. I see them on ebay going for way more than I believe their worth. So I've been looking at the 03 04 Mach 1 engines. I know their are major differences between the two but it still seems to be a much better base for modification than the GT I currently have. Also I believe I can find an entire salvaged vehicle for much less than I would the cobra in any form. So what I am wondering is if any of you have done this swap. If so are their any mods out there that allow you to replace the shaker with a straight cold air system. If not would you see any great difficulty with fabricating one. I also assume that the mach will bolt in fine since the 03 04 cobra will. My only other major concern is the exhaust. I guess the headers will have to be mach headers, but what about the rest of the way back? Will the entire Mach exhasut bolt the the GT. TY for your time in reading this.

Finding a totaled Mach with a useable engine should be pretty easy. Just remember that a stock Mach 1 bottom end won't hold up to as much hp as a Cobra will. If you've got the funds for it go ahead and get the internals beefed up. If you don't want a shaker hood, just unbolt if off of the intake. You will have to get a CAI to get rid of the hole in the factory air box that is used to feed air from the shaker hood. I think one made for a regular GT would probably work fine. Or you could make your own. The engine should bolt in just fine, but why not go ahead and upgrade your K-member while your at it, with a tubular member. They are pretty affordable, and I bet a call to someone like maximim motorsports or UPR could help clear up a lot of questions and concerns you may have. The headers will have to be Mach 1 specific, on account of the 4v heads. The rest of the exhaust, I'm not sure, but should fit according to transmission type, standard or auto... I hope this helps a little.
