HID problem

Well after a successful day with Hid's working perfectly.

I went to a shop and got the wires clamped together for a permanent connection & water proof.

They worked well all day until later in the day.

I went to turn on the headlights, one bulb came on, the other came on for a split second and then turned off.

To make sure it wasn't the bulbs/ballasts I switch headlights (left to right, right to left) and plugged them in one at a time and turned them on, they worked.

I then put the headlights back in and turned them on...they worked...I turned them on/off like 8 times waiting a bit between each turn on...they worked.

I then went inside for like 10 minutes and came back out and turned them on... it started doing it again where one light comes on, the other comes on for a split second then goes back off.

What is wrong here and what is the fix?

first thing i usually always ask with HID's is do you have daytime running lights?

Same thing happened to me with my fogs. Check your ground connections. Make sure your grounds are actually attached to the chassis and not the stock wiring grounds (stock wiring sucks ass), with the exception of the relay signal ground. If that's not the case, you might have a bad ballast.

no...they have to be turned on by the knob being pulled.

Yeah I just switched the stock ground on top of hid kit grounds...no luck.

Honestly I'd have to take a look at it for you to tell you what the issue is. It really sounds like a connection is not able to push all the current through or something's causing the current to flow back into the system. If your ballasts power on sometimes with no problems, then it's usually a wiring issue.

I just tried switching the bulbs (left bulb to right housing, vice versa) and so far so good...?

Idk why is working again just by switching the bulbs... I'm stumped... unless it is the actual driver ballast because that was the side that wasn't working properly.

I am so frustrated at this point. My HID's sometimes work and sometimes don't.

An example would be like yesterday:

I turned them on in the morning and both successfully came on. I then drove about 30 minutes to my destination with them on and turned off car. I was gone for several hours.

I came back turned on car and tried turning on HID's and only one came on, the other one came on for a split second and went off. So I just turned them off since I couldn't stand for just one light to be working. Then when I was driving down the rode I tried turning them on again and now neither of them came on but they both came on for a split second and went off (did it while at a stop light behind a car so I could see them).

When I got home I went to turn them on and they both came on...I am like WTF.

Now this morning neither of them would come on.

(every time I would try to turn them on they would come on for a split second and then go off and sometimes they won't even come on for that split second)

STANG187- I had the same problem at one point. Go through and make sure every connection and ground is connected and good to go. Then check the connections on the ballasts. Now after doing this if it doesnt work then you have a bad ballast. make sure first before ordering another one. I ended up also putting the flicker harness on my set. They are basically a capacitor for the ballast that stores extra power in case for some reason voltage spikes or drops it wont make the HIDS flicker. just my thought

Sorry to hear it's not working out man . I still think it's a bad ground issue like boosted said. Make sure you run grounds directly to the chassis, not the stock wiring. The only place where you should use stock wiring is for the relay signal wires.

Yeah I mean besides this problem I think they are great, very bright though I had to aim them down some more from stock so it wouldnt be as bright to other drivers though it is still bright.

How much of a blinding issue would it be if I put them in the fogs to. If I do get them for the fogs, my heads are 6000k 55w, what would match that is 35w?

And by tomorrow I will post pictures of my wiring and everything if that would help determine if I wires something wrong, but I don't think I have them wrong.

5000K 35W would match them great. 55 watt kids tend to be a little whiter because they are brighter.

893 and 880 use the same socket, so you'll want the 880 kit.

I finally found my problem...

I have to turn my headlights on before I turn my car on or else one of them will flicker on and go off, or both will flicker on then go off.

But if I turn them on before I turn my car on they work just fine with no issues.

Is there any way to fix that issue so I can turn them on when my car is running without the problem?

I hope I don't have that issue with the fog hid kit.

That's really not healthy for the ballasts to crank your car while sending power to them... Hope you resolve your issue man...

I am completely confused. They work when the car is on now, and have been for the passed 24 hrs. Maybe this problem was caused by the crazy rain I've had here this past week, I don't know.

Can some one explain to me the extras that DDM Tuning put on the HID kits as options = the $15 hid harness, and the $20 error code capacitors type 3 and type 5? Do I need any of that for the fogs or current HID kit for headlights.

I am going to order the 5000k 35w HID (880) for fogs now.

Here are some pictures of the HID kit that magically works now when the car is running.
