Rear Axle Help Im Going Crazy!!

Not so long ago I slid into a curb and bent my passenger side rear axle, so i decided to change it today, so i took everything apart and now after this i was trying to put the new axle back in but it will not go in no matter what i do, the old one came out as it should i pushed it removed the C clip and pulled it out slowly and now when i try putting either one back in it goes in maybe and 1 inch away from where its suppose to stop but it doesn't go any farther... now i changed the bearings do u guys think it could be that the new bearings aren't letting me go any further or what do u guys think????

if it really is an inch too long (thats a bunch in this situation) I'd say you have the wrong axle for your car.

no i measure it is the same size as the old one the thing is that when i push it in it doesnt go in deep enough for me to put the C clip on it. it goes in fine and then about an inch away from where i would have to put the C clip on it, it stops and wont go no further.

if your SHURE the new & old axles are identical, try removing the abs sensor & see if that helps.

I agree with casper. First thing i thought is maybe its a used axle out of a random 8.8 and the axle length is different.

i agree with casper and AJM, but if you didnt remove the sensors before pulling the old ones, then how did you get them out??

Did you do the wheel bearings too? If so, maybe you don't have them driven all the way in.

Well i ordered the axle from autozone it came with the abs sensor on it already and it doesnt seem as if the sensor is in the way cuz not even the old one that came out really easy is going back in, how would i know if the bearings are all the way in?? is there a certain depth to it or something????

Doesn't say he made sure he drove them all the way home though.... I imagine that if he is smart enough to remove them, he is smart enough to know how to install them and make sure they bottom out..... If he only installed them flush, it would keep him from installing the c clips.

thanks for pointing this little tid bit out.... i have a habit of not reading to the end of the post.

you have to drive them in until they bottom out. You have to drive them a little past the edge of the housing. You can probably use your old one to get this done. I use the flat side of a big socket. Put a piece of woor between the socket and your hammer when hitting it or put an extension on the inside of the socket and hit the extension - causing the socket to drive in the bearing.

Go to Autozone and get the loaner bearing and seal installation kit.

Use the bearing installer tool and drive the bearing in until it seats. Then install a new oil seal. The oil seal should be flush with the end of the housing.

You also need to remove the ABS sensor from the brake bracket.

I am sure you looked everywhere on the outside for anything making contact, so I am going with the splines aren't lining up. Mine didn't slide right in either. I just played with them til they did.

Alright here is the update, the POS bearings that came with the axle didn't let the whole axle slide in, i noticed because i saw scratches on the axle so i went to auto zone and got a timken bearing and seal and everything went well from there on. Thanks for all the responses and help.
