advice on drifting the car.

so yea, i bought a used set of pony wheels with tires for 35 bucks, and wanna drift the car this saturday...
ive had my fun in the rain and can make the car do what i want it to wen the rear end comes out.

but if you guys have any tips, like stay in second, and floor it, turn the wheel or what? the tires im gonna be running are 225's on a 16 inch rim.

and how shud i set up my d specs, and rear sway bar? everything full stiff.

and is my mustang the only one that cant lock the rear wheels with the ebrake?

I'm pretty sure our e-brakes can lock up, never tried it though... too scared to whip a 180 lol. but like he said stif rear end, and drifting isnt about power going into it, you have to stabilize it with throttle control, thats also how you turn is by momentum no just dogging it around a turn or you're going to lose it.

normally i dnt really care about bs comments like urs, but today ive been in a pretty pissed off mood, and not in the mood for stupid bullshit like that.

now, if you have no driving skill and admit that ur car would be in the wall the second the rear end gets a lil slippery, thats fine, but A, i know how to control the car when it gets sideways, i think having the car get sideways in third gear when i spray it and keeping it all under control is a testament to that.
and B, im not going to be drifting near large solid objects like the one your car would be naturally attracted to.

but its cool, and really, if between WoW and porn you still have nothing better to do than to make bs comments, really, just admit ur gonna be living in ur moms basement forever.

******any actual replies and information are extremely appreciated and i am very grateful for them.

Hey. nothing wrong with any of that....

i just finished playing wow for the night.

Anyway. I highly would not suggest spraying and drifting at the same time. IF your tapping the rev limiter and spraying theres a chance of detonation and boom.

Also you want to run a higher tire pressure. You want the rear axle stiff and to start slow.

have fun and be safe

Make the suspension tight, and since you already know how to handle it- just take it easy at first and get a feel for the track. Most important, have fun man! I am waiting for the day i get to officially drift my car in an event.

yea and of course that is what i did first, but with a mustang, being a car that has the natural tendency to understeer, and isnt exactly the ideal drift car, you could assume that the techniques required to get it drifting are different, hence me asking on a mustang website and not on a 240sx website.

Hey, YOUR the one saying your spraying and getting sideways.

I was just letting you know what i thought from what you said. You make it sound like I dont understand what im talking about. When infact I do understand.

You need to learn that being an asshole and trying to get good info in the same thread dosnt end well. I was just giving you a little heads up. Most people dont know that spraying and hitting the rev limiter can cause detonation.

another trick i've seen watching a couple of drift shows on tv was if you are loosing the drift mid turn (getting too much traction) push the clutch in real quick, rev the hell out of it and pop the clutch. almost all simultaneously. this will break the rear tires loose again to continue your drift.

So basiclly forget everything you know about getting around the track fast, drifting is not the fastest way around the track. So you want the car to oversteer as much as possible. So stiffen the rear to keep it from rolling either with stiffer springs, larger sway bars, and higher tire pressure. Also make the front roll more with the opposite, softer springs, smaller sway bar, and lower tire pressure. You might consider disconnecting the front sway bar all together. BTW, I autocross my Mustang on a regular basis. One last thing, find a good body shop and have fun.

what he said. i've been drifting my mustang since i got it. when i first started out i was trying the e-brake pull but that didnt work to well. the clutch kick works the best for these cars. plus, unless you have work, it gonna be real hard to keep one going on a stock engine. with the weight of our cars, we really need at least 300 to the wheels to drift well. (from what i have researched.)

and to everyone else, the OP knows he's gonna get hell just for saying drift around these parts so cut him some slack.

i think Vaugn gitten and samual hubbenite, dont know how to spell his name, would have a thing or two to say about drifting in american muscle!!

FYI vaugn just won the first D1 event of the season with his 2011 mustang GT
