Alright, havent asked for much tech help. but cars acting up.

Last weekend my car started making some weird noises while i was driving home from my folks. its only when im at low rpm taking off from a stop whether its first or nuetral. its kind of a grinding whinning noise. but it doesnt happen in 2nd or 3rd or nething.

My first thought was tranny fluid. so i emptied all the tranny fluid today on my lunch. looked good and clean (pretty metalic tho, is that normal?) Also it was a little too full? it had about 4 qaurts... when i think stock is 3.17 quarts? correct me if im wrong?

so my next thought is the rear end. when i get home from work tonight im going to pull the rear cover off of it and see if theres any fluid left (i noticed when i pulled it out of the garage today that theres a small puddle under the rear end.

now when re-installing the cover, the local stealership told me to just use rtv, is this the best thing to use. and then i beleive i read that i need to use 3 quarts if it has the friction modifier, or 2 quarts plus 4 oz of modifier.

i havent worked on the rear end of my car much, messed with several other cars, on most there is a plug on the rear plate you unscrew to fill up. i noticed ours dont have it. im assuming there is a plug on the top of the actual housing then? is it the 3/8 drive style just like the tranny plug?

The fill plug is on the driver's side of the car on the drive shaft side of the rear end near the top

Awsome.

My other question would be... i know alot of people have just pulled their shifter off to fill the tranny with fluid. last time i tried that i couldnt get the shifter off, the guy before me must have siliconed it on with some sticky stuff.

So i was wondering, i noticed that if i took the shift boot and all that off, i could then use a peice of clear tubing and snake it down to the top filler hole on the top of the tranny. and then use a funnel from up top. any reason to not do this?

Nah you could do that. I had the same issue with my shifter, I had to pry it off. But I have always found the easiest way for me to change it is just using one of those cheap pumps.

I kinda was wondering about the pilot bearing. i know my throw out bearing is bad. Even tho i just replaced it 1000 miles ago with an oem from ford. and havent raced much with it.

Im wondering if my shift fork is eating my throw out bearings. because i've noticed that my car goes threw throw out bearings like none other.

I had the same problem. Found out my fork was bent and the pilot bearing was shot.
