Lookin' to buy a vert....

I'm looking at an '01 GTvert, 50K miles for $10K. Is that a pretty decent price and what kind of issues should I be looking for that are common problems for these cars?

Actually it's for a friend who wants a vert. I like verts too. My next DD will probably be a little 2 seat vert to putt around in. I'm going to look at the car with him and am more familiar with the S197 platform. I was just wondering if there were specific things to look for and check on before purchasing.

Can't say I'm an expert on verts-recently bought an 02 vert , the only thing I 've noticed is quite a bit of rattling from the lack of a roof system. But once I installed a rear shock mount brace and a strut tower brace it helped reduce the shake and rattle considerably. Good luck.

<--Has a vert and loves it.

Doesnt have any real common problems that im aware of.

Only real issue would be a leaky top.

10k is a little to much for it, i would give around 9k, but for sure no more than 10k

That sounds like a good price if the car is in excellent condition. If the paint actually shows its 9 years of age though, I'd offer less. There's no really common issues on verts that aren't issues with the coupes. Here are a few points I've discovered though:

-Verts sometimes tend to leak water through the windows. Check the weatherstripping between the rear quarter window and the front window to make sure it's in good shape and doesn't leak water.

-Check to make sure there isn't an abnormal amount of wind noise or rear window vibration at highway speeds

-Window motors seem to go weak in our cars quite often as well as the switches. Test all window up/down switches multiple times.

-Make sure the doors line up and open/close without issue and that the subframes are in good shape.

-Make sure intake manifold isn't cracked. I've heard of related issues with coolant leaking into spark plug wells, so take it for a long drive.

Good luck man, verts are a blast to drive and bitches love them

have had mine since new, only problemI have is the front windows hit top when closing door, window adj fixed that(warrenty).

I love my car,I have no rattles, leaks or cowl shake like on older verts. I just bought the wife a BMW 330ci convert and mine feels just as solid if not more.
