VT/CMS Stage II blower cams questions

Does anyone know the "rpm range" for these cams? Also how much power could I potentially be losing by not degreeing them?

dont know how much you would lose.. but all i can say is that i love them...nice idle and couldnt be happier with a stage 2 cam, i noticed the most in the 3000-5000 range of course but thats for any 4.6 motor.

I just didn't really notice much of an increase in power after putting them in but I didn't degree them. I have a RR intake manifold so there's not much point in having it if these aren't a high rpm cam.

you should degree them. didnt it come with a card with how they should be degreed. alot of the issue with running cams that push the limmit is if they are not degreed right you could have ptv issues.

Haha I'm thinking about it. I'm just not sure if I'm making more power with it or without it.

The card says degree intake lobe to 116. I was told that I could put them in without degreeing them and since I didn't have the tools to degree or really understand how to do it that's what I did.

honestly degreeing them is important, the sprockets ford makes are never identical that is why it is required to degree them. that is not to mention that the keyway on the new cams have been known to be off. the issue then comes up to now your driver side cam could be advanced and your passenger side cam could be retarded back and now your banks are way off robbing hp. if you dont have the tools or the means of degreeing them ship them off to modularheadshop and for 130 bucks he will degree them and send you ajustible sprockets for the crank for 50 bucks so they will be spot on. i talked to him and he said the most his cams have been off is 1 degree due to different motors but that is a pretty small amount in comparison to how far you could be off.

I had press on gears so I had to just guess that the marks on the gears were the same and lined it up like that so who knows how far it is off. Just the thought of removing all that crap again just to degree them doesn't seem like fun. It took me 3 hours to get the power steering pump off last time and about the same amount of time to get it back on.

best advice i can give is call nick at modular head shop. the guy knows his stuff cause i had issues figuring out the best way to install cams and the tools to do it cost almost as much as he will charge. that is not to mention it is pretty difficult to do it in the first place. nick has a moc up motor so he can get it perfect for you. it is worth it to do this right who knows you may have already messed something up if you have ptv issues due to not having your pistons knotched

Other people with these cams were telling me they dropped them straight in without any issues. I made sure I rotated the engine by hand to make sure there was no ptv contact. So you think I should take it all back apart again?

its up to you man its your car. but honestly just drop in cams really dont exist, that is why your cams came with a card and i have looked at your set up and you have alot of good stuff and alot of money sunk into it. why not get it right, why leave power to be had, worse case would be learn how to do it your self, alot of people do it and get it right.

i was also meaning to ask if your car was tuned to run them yet. if not i would not get on your car just yet. adding cams changes your tune quite a bit and should be taken easy since you are fi

So to degree them I don't need adjustable gears right?

to be honest with you man, i would NOT take it apart and do it again. The slight degreeing is going to yeild slight results if any IMO. I know its good to do but in your case... hell naw. Just my opinion man. Definitely not worth tearing back down for the minimal gains.

I know that there are some bad adjustable gears but there are some high quality ones too that can't have problems like the cheaper ones.
