Stall Convert. stupid question

Ok, I have an 03 GT auto and I keep seeing people talking about stall converters. My car is a DD with playtime on the weekends. So my stupid question is, what will a stall do for my tranny and do I need it?

In short, a higher stall will allow your engine to turn higher RPM's before the torque converter starts transferring power to the rear. Apply full power to your brakes, then apply gas. Apply more and more gas until the RPM's stop advancing. Stock, this is about 2000RPM. Depending on your mods, the ideal range is where your torque peaks (3000RPM is a good figure for mild N/A). This way, when you launch your car, it's delivering power in the ideal range of your power band.
