MGW Shifter

Just got it in the mail today. It came with a free gasket to use instead of the silicone. I just wanted to ask is i should use the silicone like the directions say, or use the provided gasket from the seller?

On a different note, I just ran into some more money and am really thinking about the Kenne Bell 6-14 psi S/C... Where is the best place to buy it from? Direct rom KB?

thanks,
Doc

kn doesnt sell direct, you have to buy from there distributers. look up www.modularpowerhouse.com they have fairly decent deals on kb blowers.

as for the asket, use the gasket, it will make it quieter and wont have to worry about getting that shit everywhere

I just got mine in last night and I am enjoying it so far. I was almost going to start a thread about it until i found this one. I went with the silicon sealant that MGW provided. I think they would know best about which works better. They stated in the instrucitions that it's best to use the silicon instead of the gasket. I didn't really have very much of a mess and I used the entire bottle on there! Just take your time putting it on.

One word of advice though, if the shifter ball "cup" thing comes off when you pull your old shifter out, take if off of the old shifter and put it on the new one before you drop the shifter in place to be bolted down. I did mine the other way, dropped it into the tranny part and tried to force the ball of the new shifter into it, and I could never tell if it really seated in there right. So I ended up taking the bolts back out and having to check it all over to be sure it was on properly.

Also remember that if you have the 3650 or the t56 from tremec, I'm guessing you probably do, then be sure and take all of the shift stops out of the new shifter to prevent damage. These Tremec trannies have the stops already installed in them.

P.S. I'm loving mine so far , kind of takes some getting used to when you first drive it, I was afraid a few times that I didn't have it in the right gear!

+1
I instaled mine the other week. I love this thing! Definitly the best thing I've installed on my car so far. I also used the sealant. In the package it explains why you should use the sealant instead of a gasket. My shifter makes the interior quieter than the stock one did. Wait until you break it in more. It only gets better! For the first week I was sitting at red lights practicing my shifts with it. I kept making people behind me nervous because my reverse lights kept coming on. LOL

My Car is in the shop right now so I have to wait till tonight to put it on. I plan on using the gasket b/c i've used silicone before and I just want to try something different. and I have the 3650 tranny and already read about taking the shift stops out. Thanks for looking out though.

I installed mine about 3 months ago and I used the gasket. Haven't had any problems with my install.

i was wrong about the kb blowers. they sell only direct form themselves, and have a few distributers that they sell through. sorry

np man, my only problem is deciding on a blower... I think the 6-14 psi kit with the 6 psi pulley on it would be the best for a daily driver. Plus I have a road trip coming up in the next 5 months.

If you do the KB you can do 9 PSI easy and be a daily driver.

Never said the gasket would cause problems, just that it doesn't make your interior as quiet as the silicone sealant. In the end it's all your choice.

Just finished the install and the test drive....

I've had short throw shifters in other cars before, but this is by far the best one I've had. Its going to take some getting used to, but I love it.

I've had the MGW in for about 3 months now too and I love it, I couldn't imagine driving anything without the short throw now. My friend wants to get a mustang like mine and I'm curious to try his when he gets it so I can do a side by side comparison of stock vs. MGW

Congrats on the install. I've only had mine in for 4 days now and it's already starting to "loosen" up a little. I'm loving it more and more every time I drive it!
