5.4 4v Navigator motor questions
I cant seem to get my mind off this swap.
So i thought id ask a few questions Doing a 5.4 4V swap, would it just be like swapping a 4v 4.6 in my car? Also what intake manifolds are available for the (i think C port) 4v heads. I also heard the navi heads have a larger intake runner and a smaller exhaust runner due to a coolant passage? Is that true? Whats the weakest part of a 5.4?

You have to run a 5.4 intake, its a wider motor and 4.6 stuff wont fit. Sullivan, hogan and others make intakes for them, they are pricey though 700-1000 dollars new
it does drop in, but with the 4v heads on a 5.4 you will be pushed to the max on space. the exhaust ports arent that bad, they are one of the better stock flowing heads, even coming on a truck. A little pork work REALLY opens these heads up. The stock motors are pretty stout, I helped put one together in a 99 car and with 10lbs of boost was a beast, people say they will handle 700-800 stock, but until I see it, Im not gonna jump on that one. Modified right they will make/handle what ever you want them to make. I want to build one N/A about 11:1 ported heads, good cams, spin it to 7500 should be good for 500ish at the wheels with nothing radical other than the compression ratio

honestly, if you just buy a good intake and throw some good guts inside it, you will make more power than youll know what to do with

the 5.4 dohc is a nice motor when done right, go with a boss290 manifold, 11:1 comp ratio, and some mild cams and you will have a fairly stout NA mod motor.

Well going for N/A power is a waste. You can go farther any day with boost.

Are there any roots style superchargers for that setup?

if you stick with a 2v 5.4 you can look into a lightning blower.

I would think so, but it wouldn't be cheap. Better to go wiu a procharger. A pd blower on a 5.4 will not fit under hood, and I know of no one who makes a hood to clear it.

Im not too worried about the hood issue.
If worst comes to worst il buy a huge ass cowl hood. To me the torque of a 5.4+ PD blower = sex.

if its a 3v, you will have to figure out something with the tb, exhaust manifolds, and something with the cams and it should work.

Keep the 3v, it's a much better choice than a 2v
