Noob has Cobra questions.. lol

What are the big visual and performance differences between say a 2001 Cobra and an 03/04 Cobra.. besides the couple of things ive noticed or know being the front fascia and the Eaton blower.. I'm wondering because I'm calculating my best step forward with my Stang.. I've pretty much came to the conclusion that its almost dumb to mod my six as much as i had planned because id end up spending near 30grand for cost of car + mods.. :-/.. i know i want a Cobra sooner or later.. just trying to understand the differences between the two eras.. I could probably figure it out myself but i know next to nothing about cars.. ne help would be great, thanx!

the 01 cobra motor doesnt have a forged engine and wont support the power the 03-04 will stock. the bumpers are different, front and back, different boddy enhancments. the 03-04 has a forged motor and the superchager about 70 more hp and the different body parts. both have irs rear setups

Different front facia, Different hood, different wing, and that is about all for the outside, and in the engine, you can tell. And the interiors are basically the same except the 2003-2004s have some a pillar gauges( boost and something else). The 03-04 is a much better platform, because it has forged internals unlike the 01. Not to mention the blowers performance! Both have an indendent rear suspension, and are fun cars. Go with the Terminator if you want the best!

would it be worth it to try and get an 01 w/ 70k on it? how much would it cost to forge internals and what kinda power could i expect out of it either way? if i get a cobra i definitely want it to be tough and powerful.. to match the badass appeal that accompanies the cobra name, haha

Been there done that. Traded in my V6 for a GT Bullitt. Didn't even own my V6 for a year. I should have listened to my friend when he told me the power is addictive. LOL

It will cost more to make the 01 like a 03/04, but if thats what funds allow then do it. The cost of forged internals is around 2000-3000 w/o installation. Then you can run your blower of choice. The eaton blower that is on the terminator, is not that great I think it is a M90 (that might be what is on the new shelby). Both will be a big step up from a 6er!

the m112 is from the cobra the m90 is from the thunderbird supercoupe.. i think.. what about maybe doing what neckbonekat did and finding a decently priced nice gt with not very high miles and trading in and work on it some till i get a cobra.. i believe ive read that stock gts are good on stock internals up to 400ish hp?

O and drgn, all the Terminators I have seen have had 2 gauges on the a-pillar. Also I think it said something like this in the book Iron Fist Lead Foot! Great read for any one, and WHTPNY I suggest you read it. Very informative!!

I new it was the m112 or the m90 lol. But I think that you would be happy with a GT. It will be cheaper, and it will take well to mods as well. You also might want to look into the 96-98 cobras, because they have the 4V in them and can be bought for about the same amount as the 02+ GTs!

Yeah I was going to mod my six, but then I thought why? It's like starting a race behind and spending your money just to catch up to everyone else. I didn't see the point when I could get a GT and start from there. Don't worry I felt like a big dummy to, especially since I have a friend is a Mustang lover and he told me not to bother with a V6 or an automatic. I bought both. LOL

PS - When I traded my '04 V6 for my '01 Bullitt my insurance actually went down. Search autotrader or ebay for a babied GT. There are plenty of them out there.

those cobras have a different block, different internals and also a different head design. the sn95 cobras dont have as much potential stock for stock as the terminators do

I know they dont have as much potental, but they are cheaper. And if whtpny is going to be forging the internals and tearing the engine apart any way then that route would be cheaper, because it is much cheaper than a 01 or a Terminator. Also the 99-04 GTs are around the same price as the 96-98 Cobras here in denver. What would you rather have a 2V or a 4V for the same price?
