Dam Service Engine LIght on AGAIN!!!

OK...so 2 1/2 weeks ago I get a full tune up... Everything is fine for about 2 days.... Then I start the car and dam light came on....went to garage...Dam Ignition coil went bad... I was like...OK....just my luck... I drove it all that day then parked it and went to Florida for a week...Came back today....Went to get pizza...Let it run for a bit seemed rough but I was like...well it did sit for a week. Started down the road and the dam light came back on!!!!! I just got back from bringing it to my mechanic....I guess Ill fing out tomorrow.... I was thinking back to when I got the tune up at the bottom of the sheet it said "Bullitt Tune" I didnt think much of it then but now?....Could it be tuned to the wrong specs? I am a GT......2001.... NOT BULLITT.....

Yeah sounds like a misfire especially if the check engine light on. The codes are p0300 : random misfire, 301 :cyl 1, 302-308 cyl 2-8. you get the idea.

If you want to look for a bad coil pack, pull the connector off them one at a time with the engine idling. If the coil is good, when you disconnect it the idle will get worse. If you disconnect one and there is no change, you've found a bad coil or possibly just a bad plug. That shouldn't take more than ten minutes to test...

I would try that...

Also I would contact whoever tuned the car and let them know what is going on...It could be an issue with the tune...

Did you find another bad coil? I'd hate to see you throw parts at it trying to fix it...

I haven't changed the plugs yet but from what I've been told it's one 7mm bolt holding the coil on. Unplug the connector, remove the bolt, and wiggle it off the plug.

I wouldn't pay him to check the coils without checking them yourself first the way I mentioned before. It's really simple to do and will literally only take about 5 minutes. If you unplug one and it makes the car run even worse, just plug it back up - that one is obviously good. If you unplug one and there is zero change, that one isn't firing. At that point you know it's either the coil or spark plug. You can further test that by swapping the one in question with a good one you've already tested then retest those two and see if the dead cylinder moved with the coil or not. If it moved with the coil, you've got a bad coil pack. If not, it may be the spark plug. Pull it and visually inspect it. It's not hard to goof one up if it was dropped while he was giving it a tune up. If it looks good, swap it with a good plug and see if the dead cylinder moves. If it does, change the plug. If it doesn't... Post back.

I know it sounds like a lot but you can tell real quick if you have a dead cylinder or not just by pulling one coil wire off at a time while it's running and looking for one that doesn't change the way the engine runs - that'd be the culprit.

You could easily have a bad O2 or cat or a bad sensor.

hey you live in mass right? Just go to autozone, dont waste youre time unplugging every coil pack. They will check the code for free. Im a ford tech, bring back the code and i can tell you exactly what it is.

Buying all 8 coil packs sounds like a waste of money to me. I replace them all the time. 7mm bolt. You dont need to remove the fuel rail although some people say you do. They are RUBBER, just bend them out of the way.

Casper.... I wana replace them with the Accel Super coils. They say they run 60,000 volts rather than the 40,000 volts that the OEM coils produce. I can buy all 8 for 220.00.... I am thinking better performance.......am I wrong...Check out the link I posted above for the coils.

Youre running a stock or close to stock GT probably right ? Coil packs you will put in and say....wow. Nothing happened. But if you would like them then install them dear.

I know what they are, there are a few other choices out there too, but they are the cheapest. Good luck
