T56 Questions - Swap & what will work

Guys so I changed my trans fluid last night and It def shifts better. Trans was over full for sure b/c of how much came out of it. I have the TR3650 now. My 3rd gear syncros suck if I try to shift fast at any RPM over 4500, it grinds a bit so I got to granny it. Before 4500 it is ok. I know will granny 3rd which sucks.

I am either going to rebuild this one -- prob not b/c the suck. or get a T56.

Questions though ---- Better to get a T-56 or Rebuild my 3650 with the D&D kit? IDK

What T56 Trans 's will work?

I know the 03/04 cobra will correct?
I also hear the viper will?
I hear that the Chevy ones have a bigger imput shaft so our throwout bering wont fit on it correct?

I know I will need a new cross member & a shorter driveshaft but I really need to know what transmissions will work out of what cars so I can locate a good deal I can not afford to spend 2500 + haha.

Help !!

In my opinion I'd put the 6speed in there if you can afford it. For budget minded people I just say upgrade the internals in the 3650 and rebuild it.

T-3650 ~ T-56 swap in the works...

I went with at TKO 600 before my 6 speed because it was cheaper....but one thing you have to remember is that when you switch to a T56 or a TKO or (i dont know didnt look at it) if our rebuild kit upgrades it....you will have to change your clutch to a 26 spline input shaft. that will cost some money as well.

but yes the cobra ones would work...which i would recommend because then you can get the cross over, mounts and driveshaft...cause you will need a new drive shaft.

Oh i just remembered what the D&D kit is.....if i read it correctly it is just an upgrade to the parts out of the 04 TR3650 and i can tell you...you will have the same problems....I would look into this one its a lil bit more but a lot better and still cheaper than a T56

Astro Performance is proud to announce a Upgrade for 2001-2004 Mustang 5 Speed Manual Transmissions. This Upgraded Gear Kit will support over 800+HP @ Flywheel. The Gear Kit requires use of a 2005-Up Mustang 4.6L TR-3650 1st & Rev. Mainshaft Gears. The G-Force Gear Kit features different tooth counts on the "Head Set" that change the 1st Gear Ratio to a 2.90 (Close Ratio) so that you get the most out of 1st Gear with a Low Rear End Ratio. In addition, the G-Force Gear Kit will two of the most Fuel Efficient Overdrives available: .53 or .58! The only required upgrade to install the Transmission into vehicle after G-Force Gear Kit has been installed is to upgrade to a 26 Spline Input Shaft ( 1 1/8"). The Upgrade will still allow use of Stock or Aftermarket Bellhousing, Shifter, Cross-Member, and Driveshaft! Astro is currently working on a "Road Race" Style 5th Gear Kit for this upgrade! Astro Performance will sell the Upgraded 2nd, 3rd, Input, Cluster, 1st Gear, and Rev. for $1,695.00. This Kit will work in all 2001-04 Ford Mustang 4.6L TR-3650 Cores. Please call (866) 253-0019 (866) 253-0019 for more details!

Thanks! sounds Nice -- so I would need to get an 05 and up 1st and reverse mainshaft gears and then buy this kit? Then need to get it installed right? Prob looking at $2500 right there with the rebuild I would think. Shiz is expensive. ~ Need to figure this one out.

Promotion powertrain makes a built t-3650 for way less. It is rated for 750 hp. It is a reconditioned piece, but no different than if you rebuild yours.

Ok cool. see i have see some of those trans for not that expensive. Do you have an idea of where to get an imput shaft for one and what it entails to change it?

Will our belhousing work with it? You said diff one but which one?

Same with flywheel?

Thanks if you know.

ProMotion Powertrain
Thanks bro. Those are not bad prices. the TR3650 that holds 750 for $1600.00 is not bad. probably the perfect senareo for budget you know.

Yeah, the only down side is you still need to get a 26T clutch.

T56 swap

So here is my problem. I think I am producing way too much hp for my T5. I redline at 100mph in 4th gear. Since 5th is nothing more than an OD gear, my acceleration is killed when I shift. I was thinking about doing a T56 swap, but would much rather rebuild the T5 as there wouldn't be the need for "custom" fitting. Before I do anything though, I would like to know if this would solve my problem, and is it even possible for a T5 to support 800+hp at the flywheel. I haven't reached the 800+ realm yet, but that is my projected flywheel hp after all of my mods and upgrades are complete. Currently I am at about 440 flywheel hp... Oh, I have an 04 V6 3.9L with a lot of mods and upgrades so I am not lying about my hp... I am a hell of an engine mechanic but have no clue about transmissions...

I have a T56 and really like it. You really need a high gear ratio in the diff though. I have 4.10's and i can almost hit 50mph in 1st gear. However, there is only about a 500 rpm difference between each gear, including 6th. It's not a drag racing transmission, its a road racing one.

Yes.... the properly geared T-56 WILL solve this issue without question

The HUGE gap between 4th~5th gears is the sole reason I swapped, but VERY important you get the correct model. There are several different ratio "sets" available and the #1260 will address the particular issue you mentioned here. A stock #1260 is not rated at the torque numbers you are at, so would probably be best to have one built for strength, yet with the same gears as the #1260.

This ultimately depends on two things, when considering your HP/T applied to the trans. How hard you are on your ride from a dig and if you are running very sticky tires. Grip is what is hard on the trans and driveline parts, not HP/T Of course, one gets your numbers and typically wants such to make use of the it. This means, you are likely back to having a trans custom built for extra strength AND that .8 5th gear to rid yourself of the "drop-off" in RPM when you are passing the 100 MPH mark.

Jazzer

If your getting 440 HP out of a V6, I imagine you are running near 20 PSI on a blower
