head unit installation

I currently have the Mach 460 system in my Mustang, and I'm taking it out to put in a new head unit and 6x9s. I already put the speakers in and I'm trying to put the new head unit in now. I'm rewiring the system instead of using adapters for the stock amps and whatnot, but I can't seem to figure out which wires on the stock harness do what. Specifically, I need the wire colors for the power, ground, and battery. The lightbulb in my circuit tester burnt out, could anyone help me?

LOL, I love directechs! But I think I like the audiovox tech support site better, they are right more often than directechs. I work at the one in Princeton, New Jersey. I've been installing for a long time , but only been doing it professionally at bby since Aug. of '06. Thanks for the welcome. I didn't even know about this site, I was always using MF. My senior told me about moddedmustangs and I've been searching and I really like this place better! Thanks for the welcome fellow installer!

Nice to see a fellow installer here. I've got my own website too that I just started couple weeks ago. It's still a huge work in progress and I hope someday it does well. Check it out: www.carfitech.com

Okay, I fixed my test light and ran it and there was no power, but it was a blown fuse. I changed the fuse and ran the light again and there was still no power at the harness that plugs into the back of the stock unit. At this point I'm thinking about running a new circuit from the fuse block and grounding it somewhere under the dash. If I do that, I still don't know where to hook up the red ignition wire. In the truck I used to have the new head unit in, I just spliced it into the in-dash ignition, but I don't know where to wire it into a column ignition. My car is a 99 by the way.

Nevermind, the mini fuse for the radio under the hood was blown as well. I used the test light and found power on a green wire with a light purpleish stripe, is that my 12v battery wire? If that is the battery and I find the ground, how do I find my 12v ignition wire?

1999 Mustang
Radio 12volt: light green/purple stripe
Radio Ground: Black
Radio Ignition: Black/Pink stripe
Factory Amp Turn On: Dark Blue

Those are all the colors you need. All found in the radio harness. Remember, to test the amp turn on, you have to turn the ignition on. I don't think you are dumb, but just wanted to remind you!
