Cold Shifts

When my car is cold it is hard to put it into any gear (I have to try every gear and then I might be able to jam it in the gear I want if I find one open) and then I have to continue fighting it sometimes while driving for a little while till it warms up. Just wondering if anybody else has this problem and if anybody has found a solution?

sometimes i have trouble shifting it into reverse, but it's not necessarily cold (t-45). when it's cold sometimes the gears do grind a little though.

yes, trust me... a lot of people have this problem. When it's cold, she has a hard time going into any gear.... especially 2nd. No worries man, just shift easy till she gets all warmed up.

what shifter are you using on that tremec?
Is the fluid full and is it the syncromesh fluid?
Every tranny Ive had both the t5 and he t45 sometimes if it wont go into reverse i put it in 1st and move up a half inch or so to release the pressure on the input shaft and then go back to reverse, NO problem. Its because reverse isnt synronized i believe.

I do about the same thing, before I shift into reverse I alwasy shift into 3rd then to reverse. The reason for that is if your in neutral with the clutch out your input shaft is spinng, pushing in the clutch and putting it into any foward gear stops it from spinng and lets it shift into reverse smoother.

As for the rough cold shifts... It never gets cold here, so I have yet to experience them

There is a tsb on hard shifting that has to do with the trans being overfilled
(if you fill it to the bottom of the fill plug its overfilled)there is a revised fluid capacity.

I had the same issue until I got my MGW shifter. Haven't had the issue since, or at least not nearly as bad.

Your shifter fixed the problem?

No, but it made it better. The oil you use may also help with that too. I run valvoline dura-blend for now. Once I buy ramps I'll start changing it myself with synthetic.
