Engine swapping question

I have the 4.6l V8... im looking to get a 5.0 302 engine...

heres the questions...

should i get a 302 or a 351W?
i was told to get the 302.. as they are quicker and the 351W are more for pulling...

what year 302/351W engine should i get?
i was told to get around the year 1987 ford mustang 5.0

will the 302 fit right into the 4.6l engine mounts?
there shouldnt be too much to change right?

You will have to get a K-member from a 94-95 GT or cobra to get the 5.0 in there. And you want atleast a 89 or newer, because they already have MAF on them where as the 87-88 do not. The 351W can be bored and stroked to over 400CI where as the 5.0 can only go to 347. Personally I would go with the 351W even though it is slightly heavier. Remember No Replace ment for Displacement!

well.. its gonna be a drag car... my buddy got me into it with his 490 HP '93 Mustang... so would the 351W be a better drag option?

If its a drag car then go with the new hurricane boss 302 block bore it and stroke it while you are in there do forged internals. Remember that this is expensive as hell and very addicting. You really should research more and learn what will be best for you. Personally I have no experience with push rods except a 289 D-code.

Ok I would go with a 351 W and put a stroker kit in it.
Then you have to think do you want Fuel injected or carbed
Carbed will be easier for a conversion.
If you want fuel injection. Then get an engine harness from an 89 mustang gt or lx that had the 5.0 that is the only year they made the engine harness its own harness. All other years the it was integrated as part of the entire wiring harness of the car. And it is mass air and not speed density wiring harness.
Then get the A9L computer from an 87-93 mustang. It is for a 5.0 5 speed. If you deceide to go with a 351 W and fuel inject it still use all these components, just get a tweecer to get the computer tuned for you engine.
You will also have to have a k-memeber from a 94-95 mustang as these were the only years the s9-95 bodys had the 5.0 between the strut towers
