Back to dyno....issues fixed......
For those of you following my build I have found some issues that I hope you can all learn from.......the car made 355/350 N/A thru a 4000 stall auto with a CR of 11.7 to 1.....it was a stock Cobra Short block with TFS 44CC heads ported by Fox Lake.......the cam was from Nick at the Modular Headshop and was the test profile cam......the car ran 11.65 @ 115.67 with a 1.60 60 ft and 7.40 1/8th @ 92 mph......My car went down for a rod bearing in the #5 cyl......so I decided to build for boost and see how the car does N/A on a 9.3 to 1 CR with forged internals.....the car is built for 1000 HP now........
Well my car has been down for a week and there was some issues......after the build about 6 months ago it put down 315/311 with the CR going from 11.7 to 9.3 to 1.......well turns out my cam timing has been off....lol.....the car was making a tapping noise and turn out to be the right side chain slapping because the crankshaft woodruff key was halfway missing where the timing chain gear meets the crankshaft.....ttt......the woodruff key was probably the culprit of my old engine rod failure too....turns out part of it broke off (decinagrated) and ended up in the oil pan.......meanwhile the chain gear was rocking back and forth opening up the gear more and more......it would move 8-10 degrees off back and forth....best way to describe it was the keyway was double the size + with the side that grabs the gear still entact.....well needless to say I got her back running yesterday and all I can say is it feels stronger than the High CR combo.....but the A/F's and timing are off now since it was tuned with the timing off.....so 315 with the timing off was pretty impressive......I put on all new timing componets and she runs better than ever......even after the tune the car didn't feel right at cruising speeds and idle...and the car was adding and subtracting fuel like crazy in the right bank......turns out the tensioners was the only thing really keeping the timing componets together but allowed the chain to skip a beat on the right bank......probably at start up when the engine was built......it has been doing this with the old engine too...turns out I looked at the engine build photos and the woodruff key was worn down in the picture too.....ttt.....we all missed that one.....I didn't buy a complete timing set just the chains and guides on the last build.....well lesson learned......thank god I had the TFS heads will all the clearance and -18cc pistons...plenty of room in there....lol.....I am confident she will push out 350+ even with the lower CR....she definately feels stronger now that back then......It will be a while till I make it to the dyno since he is in Charlotte, NC and I am now in Duncan, OK....I may just drive down to Dallas to get her tuned.....but all and all I don't feel dissapointed now...other than missing the obvious during the build.....the car feels alive again......went cruising earlier and just spanked a new 5.0 Mustang on the freeway pretty bad from.....the car pulls like crazy.... I will post up when I get her dynoed and set right....."ED"

Wow Ed, it's good that it didn't tear anything up, because with the PI heads, you'd have been screwed!!!!!
I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to stop by and see your car before you left, even though you only lived 8 miles from me. When I was there to pick up the cams it was being rebuilt. |

I will stay N/A for a bit longer.....going with a Novi 2000 next season...keeping 410's and 4000 stall.....should make a low 10 sec daily driver.....with 9 sec possibilities.....just need a cage and small and big tire combo too...the rest of the car is race ready...

I am anxious to see what she puts down NA now with the new build....if its north of 350 still with the lower CR I may just spay a 150 shot and be done with it.....not sure if I want to go through the hassle of building a race only car...lol....just want to keep it street friendly and pounce on a few bikes here and there...lol

You really think it's gonna make more with less compression??
You list your numbers were from a 4000 stalled converter. It doesnt matter what the stall is when it is locked as yours was.

I have seen cars make 340 with blower cams and 8.5 to 1 cr......good ring seal and great breathing combo's can put down some good numbers........I was running a tired 01 Cobra short block with stock internals.....not to say it will but it did put 315 down with the timing all jacked......I think it will produce alot more than the 315 at this point.....from a low end pull standpoint TQ and HP is way up! My power numbers NA are limited to around 350-360 hp with the stock bore.....but wouldn't be surprised to see another 30-40 hp throughout the graph up to peak power.....right now it feels night and day compared to what it has been....and it actually ran stout for being out of timing.....as far as the stall on the dyno I have to gradually get into it or it will flash....usually can hit WOT until 3500 rpms..even then we have to lean into it......I don't lock the converter to pull from 2000 rpms.....no need too......plus the 4R70W is set in the computer to lock at 90mph in 3rd gear or D......so at WOT it will lock at that speed...hope this helps....

Plus now that the timing is fixed I am curious to see how timing effects come into play.....I may have been timing capped with CR and fuel compared to lower CR combos that can run alot more timing NA......we shall see...
