Opinions please- trade in new edge for S197?

I test drove an 06 GT today and holy shit is this thing fast compared to my 04GT. It has 24,500 miles/ Metallic Gray/ Flows/ JVC stereo - otherwise stock. Concerns are a few deep scratches that are through the clear coat which I'd have to touch up & live with. Tires are original & there's an orange border to the black striping that's peeling (dealer thinks they can take it off and just leave the black). Plus there's a dime size hole punched in the panel by the ac vents. Maybe somebody had a nav there, but I was told they'd fix it. No fogs & it needs a good detailing.

04 GT has 18k miles. I paid $9,000 & added $1,400 in mods - runs mint.

I know dealers will try to rape me, but the $17,500 price seems reasonable. They offered me $10,500 on my trade. He played a little game where he wanted me to be willing to leave a deposit for him to go back to the boss to see how much better he can do. I said I was going to lunch & would mull it over. I'm sure I can get my trade in value to go up to 11k and the 06 GT down to 17k even. The benefit of the trade in is that I would save about $960 in taxes & I doubt I could get 11k even in a private sale.

Carfax is clean, but shows a dealer auction a couple of years ago in PA - could have been a repo, no evidence of water damage. Engine was spotless.

My DD is a paid off Mazda 6, but I'm not sure if I can justify having a $17,000 weekend car. I live in Long Island, NY and prices are generally higher here. There are many 07 GT's for sale for substantially more, even from private sellers.

I like the look of both, but the S197 is so much more refined and powerful. I don't think insurance would go up too much & you only live once. Assuming I can afford the upgrade, is it worth it??

I tried uploading pics through ImageShack but FAIL. It was on Ebay if you want to check it out - cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Mustang-/220679828651

You only live once. I agree, I'd do it. And be prepared to keep it for a while. The only thing that made me curious, is the stripes. Isn't that stripe layout a dodge thing? Lol.

17,500? Overpriced for an 06? You could get a 03 Termi for that.

Maybe the striping is something you'd see on a Charger or Dodge truck. If someone can upload a pic or two from Ebay, I'd appreciate it.

Yea seriously I agree 100%

If anything, get a 03/04 Mach 1. Their fast, lighter, more comfortable seats, handle better, better brakes, look better in general, and not nearly as common.

You could get a Mach 1, low miles, very few mods (maybe bone stock) for about $12-$15k worth it a lot more. And Machs hold their value better.

Agreed, i'd go Termi or Mach if your gonna spend that kind of money. Mach 1 you could get for less than the 06 and have some money left over for some mods.

I appreciate your thoughts, just to clarify again it's a GT. I've looked for Machs. When I see them for sale around here the price and/or mileage has been too high. I enjoy my 04, but it's a raw ride and the 05+ seems to be a much better platform.

I understand, but a Mach is better then a S197 GT. Ask Mishini or whatever his name is. He has a S197 GT and 04 Mach 1.

Mach 1's will respond better with mods. And overall is just a better car then a S197 GT. Out performs it in a lot of catagories.

BUT, S197 GT's are nice dont get me wrong. But if your willing to spend that much, why dont you spend an extra $3000 on a nice 03/04 Cobra? Maybe not even $3000

Now I'm going to sound pussy whipped, but my wife wants me to sit tight. I can't pull off a Termi right now. I know Machs & Terminators are in a different league, but after having a New Edge I would like an 05+. BTW, my Father has a 97 Cobra which I love!

Lol you dont sound pussy whipped, thats apart of marrige.. Not that I know. But it seems like it.

Im not saying a Mach 1 is a totally better car then a S197 GT, but I figured you would have something faster and cheaper.

S197s are fast though, If you really like it, do it. 3V is better then a 2V all day.

Pussy whipped isn't anything. I listen to my wife, because most times shes right. It's part of a marriage.

Notice, most times. A "pussy whipped" guy, is married and doing fine. A "non pussy whipped" guy is usually single, or miserable with all his broken relationships. That's what I've noticed around me, anyway. Listening to your wife isn't a bad thing, and fuck those who think it is.

My rant \ $.02
