Chevy guy now a Mustang owner. Gots questions...
After 4 Camaro's and 1 Trans Am, I bought my first Mustang, a 2003 GT, auto, with 13,500miles on it. Got a hell of a deal. Using it as a daily driver, and for weekend cruizing. So... stuff id like to know:
What are the tranny gear ratios? First gear seems to go to like 41mph or so. Not much punch off the line there. What is the rear gear ratio? Will cut outs after the cats sound decent. Not asking if it will be loud, but if it will still sound decent, not like an old truck with a rusted-through muffler. What kind of gains can I expect from dyno tuning? A guy who does it around here owes me. And lastly, are there any trouble spots on the 03's I should watch for? Please dont tell me to do the search. Already searched a little and didnt find my answers. |

im not for sure on the tranny gears, but the ring and pinion are 3.27 i believe. best bang for the buck mod is some 4.10 gears.
cutouts on these cars do not sound good and wont pick you up anypower. dyno tuning on a stock motor can pic yo up 10-15 hp no trouble spots for your car.

yes the rear end stock gear is 3.27.
if you don't want really loud exhaust, but something that sounds really good (all mustangs sound good!), get yourself a high-flow catted h-pipe and a nice cat-back system. happy gains, and VERY happy sound. if I was you, i would wait on that dyno tune until you've got some more mods so that you will gain more out of the tune... it'll be more worth it.

At the 1/4mile track here, I see the 99-04 gt's usualy running mid-high14's (its not the best track though)
Whats usualy the norm for a stock gt with automatic tranny? |

I would say probably mid 14's since standards run high 13's to low 14's

I prolly wont have a 1/4mile time till I go to Norwalk this summer, but Ill get plenty of 1/8mile slips in a couple weeks. Now Im tryin to decide what to do for an exhaust, cuz thats prolly gonna be my only mod this year, other than the free dyno tune.
