03 GT Exhaust question.
Hey Everyone, i'm new to the forum and somewhat new to mustangs. Had a 93 when I was in highschool.
I have a few questions. I just picked up a 03 Convertible GT 5spd. The car is 100% stock (11,000kms) and I just put a flowmaster cat back system (pn 17312) on yesterday. The car now has the sound I was wanting but I was thinking on opening it up even more with a MAC off road x pipe. Its not an expensive pipe, its the 3 piece black powder coated pn X9920. I was wondering if this was a good upgrade or am I going to be too loud. I don't mind louder but not attract police loud..lol. Will this change my sound significantly or just louden it. I have been reading this site for a while and really enjoy it, thanks for any input guys!

the o/r xpipe will make it a little quicker, significantly louder, and it will have a more raspy tone...if your worried about being too loud, you might wanna get a catted xpipe...it will be significantly quieter than the o/r, but still sound good and loud, and will flow better than stock.
I got longtubes, with a o/r xpipe, and flows....its definately too loud in some situations...I just switched my BBK catted xpipe for an o/r one, and I'm thinkin about putting the catted one back on cause I'm scaring the shit out of people everytime I wanna just pass someone!! haha...not to mention I'm going to have put the catted pipe back on when I get my inspection done in a few months...I just had to try the o/r xpipe....goodtimes

Hmm....i'm not sure what to do, I bought the pipe today locally for 200Canadian, which is less then half what a catted pipe is. I'd love to try it, but don't want to get obnoxiously loud..lol. Emissions isn't an issue up here where I live.
I was just reading your mods...basically same as what I plan for my car, any idea what you run in the 1\4? Will GT convertible beat a 03 350Z stock-stock? Thanks! |

With flow you should have bought a H pipe or a prochamber. Flows sound much better with those than they do with a X pipe.

What would be my best bet for a midpipe, "H" or prochamber? and what brands should I be looking for. Cheaper is better for me...lol, can't really afford any of it at this point..lol. Thanks |

The H pipe is louder than the prochamber. But the prochamber isn't cheap, it's $250 or so.

I would go with the prochamber its a little more expensive but it gives you a good deep tone... deff wouldn't go with an x-pipe with chambered mufflers (like flowmaster) IMO it sounds like a bad ricer. Check out MAC for the prochamber.

MAC Prochamber FTW! it sounds to me that this is exactly what you are looking for. the prochamber isn't as loud as a regular o/r h-pipe, but IMO, they are the BEST midpipe you can buy... they have an awesome sound, and they are supposed to give more hp than a regular h-pipe (not sure how, but that's what i read)

oh ok gotcha.....
did you check out: http://www.americanmuscle.com/mac-pr...oad-99-04.html http://www.stangmods.com/MAC-Procham...605-pc9900.htm or, i highly recommend calling or sending a PM to CRAZYLEGS (his name is chad) he's one of our vendors here on MM, and he's a really great guy. give him a call and tell him you want a MAC prochamber.... apparently MAC has been out of stock on the prochambers for about a month, and I've had mine on order with him for some time, and I know that he's been in contact with MAC a lot recently, so he can give you the scoop (and a good deal). -mine comes in next week!

Oh yeah, is a prochamber a catted system?
This is the one I think I need. http://www.macperformance.com/store/...Product_ID=237 **Edit- Is this to be used with stock headers? |

One last question..lol. I was kind of wanting a catted H pipe to keep the car from being too loud, is this prochamber H pipe going to be considerably more quiet then my off road MAC X9920 I already purchased today. I don't want to go backwords...lol.
Maybe I should just give up on exhaust and go on to gears...lol. Thanks guys! |

To confirm...a prochamber off road pipe...PN PC9900 will give me the best sound with my Flow's and it will be quieter then my Off road MAC X pipe? It will also be comparable in loudness to a catted H-pipe as well? I really want to pick up this piece if I can find it, hopefully someone local here carries it, just as long as the part number is right, I think i'll be ok, even if they tell me its for 99-01 GT's. As far as gears...its an upgrade i'm dying to do, however, I got a price locally of $1100 to swap my car to 4:10's, using Ford Racing parts. Then I have to buy a tuner to fix my spedo, pretty pricey upgrade. I'm gonna see about doing it myself, i've done mechanic work my whole like, don't see how it can be so hard, i'm sure all the info I need is on here!

in my experiance catted pipes are going to be quieter... as far as those 2 pipes I have never compared them...if I had to pic I would go with the pro chamber...but it seems your worried about being too loud, so maybe you should go with the catted one... $1100 is WAY too much for gears.....I paided $450 for the gears and install that is fairly normal i think...and you definately want a Pro to do the install you can get speed calibrator for $100, but I would definately go ahead and get the SCT Xcal2...your gonna want one real soon away... http://www.americanmuscle.com/speed-...tor-94-04.html
