Test fuction on trip reset- make sticky if answered
I found out that there is a whole lot of info available if you
1) Car off, push and hold down trip reset button 2) Start car with button held down until test / gage reads 3) With car running, repeat hitting trip reset button There is about 20-30 different readings that will appear. I can figure out about 6 or so of these readings. Any ford Mechanic or anyone who can tell us what all of these mean should receive some serious reps and be made a sticky. I looked on Alldata and none of this is listed. I have a feeling that this is a wealth of knowledge to be found on our cars.

I would say that most of the time for the average driver it wouldn't be useful. But the previous owner of my car put on a reverse glow overlay on the instrument cluster. He also put the speedometer needle on in the wrong place. The digital speedometer was very helpful in troubleshooting and fixing the problem. Just in case you didn't know, zero on the speedometer isn't zero. It's seven miles per hour. In order to put the needle back on in the correct place the rear tires have to be turning.

I too found this VERY handy for the same reason as the above poster. I was able to determine that when the Previous Owner of my car put the junky looking white face gauges in, he didn't center the needles properly either. Using the digital speedometer, and the digital tach, I was also able to determine I am running 3.43:1 rear gears, instead of the more common 3.55 or 3.73 gears.

As a fairly new mustang owner I did not know this. I just ran thru the diagnostics on my car and it popped up dtc 5284 which is a bad oil pressure sending unit. How reliable is this? My gauge appears to be normal when driving and such.

It is probably correct. The oil pressure gauge in out car is a dummy gauge from what I hear and either reads normal or 0 if it has under 7psi. My car runs at 15psi when it's warm and at idle
