what are your plans as your car gets older?

i'm curious if what other people plan on doing. my stance has always been drive it till it dies, but when is that? the motor died this year, and all i did was replace the engine, tranny, and got new heads. so when the next thing breaks i assume i'll just replace that too. seems like it'll never end. or maybe keep it for a while and try to sell it before the next thing breaks? but with all the $$$ in mods selling seems like it would be hard. but so does driving till total death and just throwing away everything. i see a lot of people here with a lot invested and was curious what you all thought to do with your cars as the years and miles pile on.

My last car, a 98 Chrysler Cirrus was "drive it till the mf'ing wheels fall off". Well, it got to 178k STRONG and had not been in the shop once since I owned it at 85k. I anticipated a engine failure sooner or later and contemplated whether to rebuild it or sell it. I decided to sell it since the type of the car has no long term benefits. I then did some minor work to prepare it for sale and I purchased my Mustang. With this car, when the engine does need to be rebuilt I won't feel like it's a waste of time. I can keep this "American Muscle" car for years and pass it off to the kids. So, this is a keeper for me.

Keep it and run it strictly as a track car eventually or give it to my nephew as his first car if he wants it and puts in his wrench time throughout the years. He's not even 5 yet so we've got a while.

I plan to pass mine to my 8yo when shen starts driving. By then I plan on having enough saved to buy a different mustang. We do not do payments if we can help it. We also keep every vehicle to the point where it is not fisable to keep any longer. Maintenance is key in our family rides. Ave ownership is 12 years.

pay it off and keep it, i hate having a car payment

right now its my DD but i hope i can change that to just recreational cruiser, ive had a few opportunities but they always seem to slip away

if the motor goes i cant justify getting another loan for another x amount of years taking x amount of dollars out of my paychecks every month vs a motor swap (but hopefully i get another DD before that happens lol)

if i was smart i would have kept my first car i got when i was 16 and had it paid off in a year plus cheap insurance for being an older car, i know its still goin cause i see it every now and then

my mustang i use for show and just cruising, so if it breaks something i just replace it and keep on going.. now my daily driver... hence why I got a new truck.... as soon as it hit 100K miles, id fix something a week later something else went, and on and on, depends on your patience and mine for my daily driver was low lol

I figure to be the first octogenarian running a GR-40 to bingo night

I remember thinking that I would NEVER get rid of my '72 Vega, back in HS days and only had it for 5 years or so. Had my '85 GT for over 20 years and needed something new. I suppose that one day, I will get sick of the ride quality or my ride will just rattle apart

Jazzer says interesting question, tnole

ya, mine will continue to be converted to a full track car.

If the motor pops, then it gets a 3 or 4 valve swap for a min. of 325 at the wheels. Thats all I want.

I've got 96k miles and she still runs like a charm!

Next up is to gut the bitch, full roll cage

and once my daughter is out of the house (she's only 9 now), my plan is to hit many of the road courses up and down the east coast... Limerock, Watkins Glen, Atlanta, VIR, etc. etc.

I plan to keep my car forever. I told my girlfriend I want to be burried in it. haha. Ive owned 4 cars and this is by far my favorite. I'm obsessed with mustangs to say the least and with this being my first, it will always be special to me. No matter how many other cars I own and sell, this one will stay with me forever. . . . Anyone want to buy a 00 black GT? haha j/k

Drive it until it has 100,000,000 miles then give it to the dealership for a promo and they just might give you a brand new stang. By then probably like a boss 302 or something hahah

I just got my GT this year but I think im going to keep it for a couple years and the buy a 07 GT if I can and keep that for the long term. Thats kind of why I want to hold of on mods for now. I really like the newer style and Id have no problom pumping it up to 500 hp and holding onto it for the long term. If you want to sell a moded car you gots to part it out and that sucks.

I'm going to keep mine as my DD in the summer until i have kids. Don't plan on doing that for a number of years since in 19 but as soon as that happens, throw a blower on it and make it a nice track car.

It'll sound silly but I have an emotional attachment to my car so it'd be hard for me to sell it. I've thought about trading for a Corvette C5 but decided against it. At one point I wanted to turn it into a 600hp beast but seems like it'd be a waste of money since the SN95 is a pretty bad platform to build a supercar from.

I want to buy a GT-R and a Prius at some point, and keep my car as a street fighter since it's a convertible and not really suited for track work. I'll probably put another $7-8k into it over then next 5 years and be done with mods. It'll become the car I take out and do burnouts and doughnuts and other silly things in and not much else.
